Allan Andrews, 83, was last seen around 6 p.m. in Canoe Cove, P.E.I. RCMP issued a notice Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, after asking for assistance locating Allan Andrews the previous evening.
Allan Andrews, described as 5-foot, 8-inches and 145 pounds was last seen Monday, Aug. 19 at approximately 6 p.m. in Canoe Cove.
RCMP posted the message on its P.E.I. Facebook Monday evening, noting, “When someone goes missing, it has deep and far-reaching impacts for the person and those who know them. We ask that people spread the word through social media respectfully.”
A ground search and rescue operation was conducted and Route 19A in Canoe Cove was closed for a period of time. An update was posted to the RCMP Facebook page after 8 a.m. Aug. 20 stating that the man they had been looking for was found deceased.
The RCMP confirmed the news in a Facebook post Tuesday morning.
“Our thoughts are with the man's family at this difficult time,” said RCMP.
Andrews was a prominent figure in the P.E.I. sports community. In 2021, he was inducted into the island’s Sports Hall of Fame. His induction into the hall of fame was a testament to his significant contributions to the sport.
He holds the record for having the shortest nomination discussion to date, with 100 per cent of the vote being in favour of him being inducted.
According to the PEI Sports Hall of Fame website, Andrews was a successful hockey coach and the founder of the Andrews Hockey Growth Programs. He was also the island’s Youth Coordinator and Supervisor of Allied Youth for nearly 20 years.
