We all love Philadelphia for its creamy, tangy cream cheese that the company has been making for over 150 years. There’s a reason it’s consistently voted the best cream cheese in the world; the recipe for the spread, brick, and even flavored varieties has been perfected, which is why many of us reach for Philadelphia for our morning bagel, and countless other recipes.

While you may associate Philadelphia strictly with cream cheese, it’s not the only product the brand makes. We’ve been obsessed with Philadelphia’s pre-made No Bake Cheesecake Filling since we discovered it—and the snacking Cheesecake Cups and Crumbles are just as delicious.

Now, Philadelphia is expanding its dessert selection with a first-of-its-kind product we can’t believe didn’t exist until now.

Just in time for pumpkin and holiday cinnamon roll season, Philadelphia is releasing Cream Cheese Flavored Frosting. The frosting (which took a year and a half to develop) is made with fresh milk and real cream—just like Philadelphia’s traditional cream cheese—for a tangy, silky frosting that’s ready-to-eat.

Cream cheese frosting is one of America’s top three favorite frosting flavors, according to polls conducted by Philadelphia, so it’s only natural that the best-selling cream cheese brand would lend its quality product to the baking necessity. Philadelphia’s new frosting is the first-ever refrigerated cream cheese frosting from a mainstream brand in the U.S., as most other baking brands only offer a shelf-stable version.

The ready-to-use frosting will be available at select retailers nationwide beginning in October. It will be sold in a 16-ounce container, which can frost one 13x9” cake, a two-layer 8” or 9” cake, or 14 cupcakes, according to the brand.

Why Philadelphia's New Frosting is a Game-Changer

This move by Philadelphia to enter the refrigerated frosting market is a strategic one, as it addresses a clear consumer demand. With cream cheese frosting being one of the most popular frosting flavors in America, there is a market for a convenient, high-quality option. Philadelphia’s new frosting delivers on both fronts. It’s made with fresh milk and real cream, and it’s ready to use, with no preparation or cleanup required. It is also positioned as a premium but accessible option with its $4.99 price point for a 16 oz. tub.

The launch is likely to have a significant impact on the baking industry, as it could disrupt the traditional shelf-stable frosting market. It also offers a unique selling proposition for the brand, allowing them to leverage their existing customer base and expand into a new market segment. This move could also attract health-conscious consumers who are increasingly looking for clean-label products with minimal artificial ingredients.

Will Philadelphia Frosting Be A Hit?

It’s still early to say whether Philadelphia Frosting will be a hit, but the signs are positive. The product has been in development for a year and a half, and Philadelphia is a well-respected brand with a loyal following. The frosting is also available at a competitive price point, which could attract budget-conscious consumers. The company is also making a big push to promote the product, and it’s likely that the frosting will be on shelves just in time for the holiday baking season, which is always a good time for new products to gain traction.

What's Next For Philadelphia?

The success of Philadelphia Frosting could lead to further innovation and market expansion for the brand. The company could explore other refrigerated baking products, such as pie crusts, cookie dough, and cake mixes. They could also expand into new markets, such as Europe and Asia. It’s clear that Philadelphia is committed to innovating and expanding its product portfolio. With the launch of Philadelphia Frosting, they are showing that they are not afraid to take risks and that they are always looking for new ways to delight their customers.

The Last Bite

Philadelphia’s foray into the world of frosting signifies a move towards a market that is increasingly seeking convenient and high-quality options. The brand’s decision to launch a refrigerated product that captures the essence of homemade frosting is a testament to their commitment to providing customers with a delightful and convenient baking experience. With its launch coinciding with the festive season, Philadelphia Frosting promises to be a popular choice for bakers and dessert enthusiasts alike, ushering in a new era of flavor and convenience for the baking aisle.
