## Rangers vs Dynamo Kyiv: The Preview

Philippe Clement’s side travel to Poland to take on the Ukrainian giants and there’s millions of pounds on the line

The stakes were sky high and so too were the emotions.

Cyriel Dessers struck in the 94th minute to send Rangers into the second leg of the Champions League qualifier on level term with an impressive Dynamo Kyiv side.

Rangers are attempting to join Celtic in the Champions League group stage and bank a sizeable chunk of change for their efforts.. To do that Philippe Clement’s side still need to take care of Dynamo Kyiv who clobbered Partizan Belgrade in the previous round but up until virtually the last kick of the game they were going into the next leg a goal behind.

The winner will play either Twente or RB Salzburg but the Ibrox giants can’t look that far ahead. Clement, fresh from signing a new deal, has been emboldened by the faith his board have shown in him. The only trouble is, that confidence had taken a dent by the goalless draw on the opening game of the season at Hearts but tonight may go a long way to remedying that.

They still struggle to fashion a plethora of chances but the lateness of their goal speaks to a team who refused to give up and new signing Cerny provided a real piece of quality with his assists.

Dynamo were at their best in the opening 45 minutes and their goal was a well-worked move, that allowed Andriy Yarmolenko to convert with ease.

But Clement and the fans will still believe heading into the second leg at Hampden.

What's Next for Rangers

Rangers will be hoping to build on their first-leg draw against Dynamo Kyiv when they face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on August 10.

The second leg of the Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv will take place on August 13 at Hampden Park.

If Rangers are successful in their Champions League quest, they will face either FC Twente or Red Bull Salzburg in the play-off round.

## Rangers vs Dynamo Kyiv: The Verdict

The first leg of the tie was a closely fought affair, with both sides having their chances. Rangers will be pleased to have escaped with a draw, but they will need to improve their performance in the second leg if they want to progress to the Champions League play-off round.

Dynamo Kyiv, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to have won the first leg, but they will be confident of getting the job done in the second leg. The match is sure to be a tense and exciting affair, and it will be interesting to see how the two sides approach the second leg.

## Rangers vs Dynamo Kyiv: The Reaction

Derek Ferguson told BBC Radio Scotland:

"Thoroughly deserved, Rangers have been pressing.

There's five or six players in the box, they're all attacking the ball coming in.

Dynamo looked vulnerable from crossed balls and Dessers is on the move and it's a great connection. He can't miss from there, although he has done it before"

He told Premier Sports:

"It's what he (Dessers) gives you. It's absolutely brilliant, Philippe Clement will be so happy with his team.

They have never given up right to the end. Even though they were 1-0 down, I think they would have accepted that, back to Hampden, knowing they have got the ability to score one or two goals.

That has made a huge difference going into that second leg.

Dessers, he keeps going, he keeps battering the door down, waiting for that opportunity and he got his just rewards there at the end."

Rangers vs Dynamo Kyiv: The Highlights

Here are some of the key moments from the first leg of the tie:

  • Dynamo Kyiv took the lead in the first half through a well-worked goal by Andriy Yarmolenko.
  • Rangers equalised in the 94th minute through a goal by Cyriel Dessers.
  • Rangers had a number of other chances in the second half, but they were unable to find the back of the net again.

## Rangers vs Dynamo Kyiv: The Takeaway

The first leg of the Champions League qualifier between Rangers and Dynamo Kyiv was a tense and exciting affair. The two sides are evenly matched, and the second leg promises to be just as exciting. Rangers will be hoping to make the most of home advantage in the second leg and secure a place in the Champions League play-off round. However, Dynamo Kyiv will be looking to defend their lead and progress to the next stage of the competition.
