The death has occurred of Reverend James (Jimmy) Heneghan C.S.Sp., a revered figure known for his extensive missionary work both in Ireland and Brazil. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service and faith that touched countless lives.

Family and Early Life

Born to the late Bridget (née Mullarkey) and Jim Heneghan, Rev. Heneghan hailed from Rathlena, Granlahan, Ballinlough, County Roscommon. He was a beloved son, brother, and uncle, and his family was a source of immense pride and support throughout his life. His passing is deeply mourned by his two surviving sisters, Mary Conneally and Bridie/Sr. Attracta PBVM; his sister-in-law, Anne; and a wide network of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Jack and sisters Eileen and Margaret (Peggy), as well as brother-in-law Tom Conneally. The family’s deep sense of loss is shared by the many friends and communities he served over the years.

Funeral Arrangements

Rev. Heneghan's final resting place will be in Kildaree Cemetery, following his funeral mass on Thursday, November 20th, at 12 noon in St. Patrick's Church, Granlahan. For those unable to attend in person, the funeral mass will be live-streamed via the PJ Keane Funeral Directors' Facebook page. His reposing took place on Tuesday, November 19th, from 3pm onwards at Kimmage Manor, Whitehall Road, Dublin 12, allowing many to pay their respects. The removal to St. Patrick’s Church in Granlahan for an additional period of repose between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm was also planned to facilitate broader participation in commemorating his life.

The words "Descanse em paz" (Rest in peace) aptly reflect the sentiments of those who knew and loved Rev. Jimmy Heneghan.
