It was quite the spectacle to figure out who was grinning wider when pop icon Rihanna and Ireland's sprint sensation Rhasidat Adeleke crossed paths in London on Tuesday, with the duo sharing a warm hug.
After jetting in from Dublin, our Olympic champ Adeleke was spotted at the launch of Rihanna's Fenty Hair line, and the footage that emerged of their encounter was nothing short of heartwarming.
Adeleke rocked up sporting a chic short 'do, quite the departure from her trademark flowing mane known to whip through the air on the athletics track. And the ace sprinter herself confessed to having a 'fan girl moment'.
Taking to Instagram, she exclaimed: "Fan girl moment meeting @badgalriri Such an inspiration and forever breaking barriers in the industry," reports the Irish Mirror.
She reflected in disbelief: "My younger self would've never thought that Rihanna would be following me and my journey!"
Social media users had a laugh, suggesting that Rihanna was possibly more excited to meet Rhasidat than vice versa. One follower commented: "No Rhi is a fan of YOU."
Another chimed in saying: "Not ri ri fangirling over you Omd." Whereas yet another added: "Rihanna is the one fan girling."
Bringing her 400m season to a close this past weekend with a third-place finish in Brussels, Adeleke has left her mark, narrowly missing out on medals in the 400m individual and 4x400 Women's relay at the Olympic Games.
Jamaica’s 800m runner Natoya Goule-Toppin was among those in awe at the wholesome moment when music superstar Rihanna confirmed that she is a big fan of Irish sprinter Rhasidat Adeleke.
At her Fenty Fair event in London on Tuesday, Rihanna left Adeleke surprised when she told her that she has been following her sporting journey before they had a big embrace.
“Are you kidding me! I follow you, let’s get happy. Oh my God babe!” Rihanna confirmed to a shocked Adeleke in a clip that has left athletics fans and those of the pop star delighted.
Roles were reversed as music superstar Rihanna gave Irish sprinter Rhasidat Adeleke the surprise of her life when she confirmed to be one of her biggest fans.
Reacting to the clip, Goule-Toppin congratulated Adeleke for the massive recognition while joking that she was ‘jealous’ since she is one of Rihanna’s biggest fans.
“@rhasidatadeleke I’m jealous. I love Riri. Also love the look dear,” she posted on X.
The two track stars are good friends who follow and support each other in their athletics careers.
The 22-year-old made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics when she became the first Irish athlete to qualify for the final of the women’s 400m, ending up in an impressive fourth position after clocking 49.28 seconds.
Meanwhile, Goule-Toppin did not have such luck at the Paris Olympics where her journey ended at the semi-finals.
The Jamaican 800m runner is the latest to sign up for the lucrative women’s-only athletics event that is sponsored by tennis legend Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian.
Goule-Toppin finished sixth in her semi-final heat in a time of 1:59.14, a race won by Kenya’s Mary Moraa (1:57.86) who went on to win bronze in the final as Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson claimed gold ahead of Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma who settled for silver.
She is set to meet up with Moraa again at the ATHLOS NYC event in New York on September 26, the women’s-Only event that has attracted global superstars such as Faith Kipyegon, Gabby Thomas, Alexis Holmes and Marileidy Paulino among others.
