Toronto police are investigating a stabbing in Scarborough that left a teenage girl seriously injured. Emergency crews responded to the area of Corvette Avenue and Magnolia Avenue, near Eglinton Avenue East and Midland Avenue, just before 1 p.m. on Friday. Police say a female was found at the scene with serious injuries and paramedics have transported her to hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say the stabbing did not occur on school property but schools in the area have been placed in hold and secure out of precaution. Three schools — Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies, a high school for adult students, Corvette Public School, and South East Year Round Alternative Centre — were briefly placed in “hold and secure” just for precaution during the early stages of the investigation. The hold and secure measures were lifted just before 3 p.m.

Investigators describe the three suspects as:

  • Suspect #1: female, Black, 17-19, wearing a black hoodie
  • Suspect #2: female, Hispanic, 5’3, 17-19 wearing all black
  • Suspect#3: female, White, 5’3, 17-19

Details on what led up to the incident or if the victim and suspects knew each other were not immediately clear. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

Schools Placed in Hold and Secure

The stabbing incident prompted a brief lockdown of several nearby schools as a precaution, although it is unclear if the incident occurred on school property. CityNews reports from the scene a park playground in the area is surrounded by police tape.

Schools in the area that were placed in hold and secure include:

  • Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies
  • Corvette Public School
  • South East Year Round Alternative Centre

Investigation Ongoing

Toronto police are continuing to investigate the stabbing and are asking anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.

A Day of Violence

The stabbing in Scarborough was one of several violent incidents that occurred in Toronto on Friday. Earlier in the day, three men were injured after a man armed with a knife entered a Montreal-area Islamic cultural centre. The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

These incidents highlight the ongoing issue of violence in Toronto and the need for greater efforts to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. It is important to remember that violence is never the answer and that there are always resources available to help those who are struggling.

A Call for Action

The stabbing in Scarborough serves as a reminder of the importance of community safety and the need to work together to address the root causes of violence. This includes addressing poverty, inequality, and lack of access to mental health and addiction services. It also includes promoting tolerance, understanding, and respect between different communities.

By working together, we can create a safer and more just society for all.

The Importance of Reporting Crime

It is crucial to report any suspicious activity or criminal behavior to the authorities. If you see something, say something. This information can be vital to preventing future incidents and keeping our communities safe. By working together, we can make a difference and create a safer and more just society for all.
