Police are investigating an incident of road rage after footage of a violent altercation between a group of men in Manchester was shared online. The chaotic scenes unfolded in Manchester and forced a road to be closed off as footage shows a car smashed up.
Police and other emergency services were scrambled to Stockport Road in Hattersley on Saturday afternoon after reports of a serious incident between two men. Greater Manchester Police were forced to put a cordon in place after being called to the scene shortly before 1pm.
Emergency personnel remained on the scene for time after while A video of the terrifying incident has been shared online. The short clip, filmed by a passer-by walking his dog, shows a group of men standing outside a dark grey vehicle and a small white van, charging towards each other with weapons in hand. Two men, in particular, are armed and take swings at opposite vehicles, smashing windows and the exterior doors in the process while the other men seem to be trying to stop things.
The road cordon remained in place overnight, and had blocked off to all vehicles and pedestrians at the junction of Underwood Road and Ashworth Lane. Photographers at the scene have captured pictures of police cars, with tape seen stretched across the road and a man wearing a hi-vis standing behind.
Video footage of the incident has since been shared far and wide on social media, capturing the two vehicles stopped in the middle of the road before the groups get out of their cars and chaos ensued. A group of three people can be seen standing at the central reservation while armed with weapons following what appeared to be a road rage incident.
GMP has confirmed in a statement that two men involved in a "reported assault" suffered "minor injuries". They are not believed to be life-threatening and bother individuals were treated at the scene of the altercation.
Police have now launched inquiries as they seek to establish the full circumstances of the bizarre incident which has caused problems for people around the area trying to use the road.
One of the men is wearing a blue shirt and dark trousers, while a second is wearing a dark hooded jacket and trousers. The third is wearing a white shirt and trousers. It's not known yet which weapons were used.
Yesterday, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement that officers would remain in the area for "reassurance" and issued an appeal for further information relating to the incident. A spokesperson said: "We are responding to a reported assault of two men on Stockport Road at 12.50pm today (Saturday 12 October 2024).
"The two men suffered minor injuries which are not thought to be life changing or threatening at this time, and were treated at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identities of those involved and the full circumstances.
"A road closure is in place at the junction of Hyde Road as well as junctions of Ashworth Lane and Underwood Road. Officers remain in the area for reassurance and to progress the investigation.
