Siena Women's Lacrosse Sets Records with 22-4 Win Over Rider
The Siena women's lacrosse team shattered records in a 22-4 victory over Rider on Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field.
The Saints' record-breaking performance included the largest margin of victory in the program's 28-year history, surpassing the previous record of 17 goals set on two occasions. Sarah Irish's goal with three seconds remaining pushed the lead to 18 to secure the new record.
Siena also matched the program record for most goals scored in a single game with 22, a mark previously set against Hartford on March 13, 2019.
The Saints dominated in all aspects of the game, winning 26 of 30 draw controls as a team. Senior Taryn Asselin set a new single-game program history for most draw controls in a game with 15.
Offensively, junior Grace Dobrzynski led the Saints with an eight-point afternoon, while junior Kelly Logue notched six points. Twelve different Saints contributed to the points column, including hat tricks from Logue, Olivia Nicholson, and Rebecca Gilhooley.
On defense, graduate student Jenna Colabufo had a team-high four caused turnovers, reaching 50 for her Saints' career.
Rider Held in Check
Rider, who entered the game averaging nearly 15 goals per contest and ranked second in the MAAC, was held to just nine shots, including six on goal.
Dominant Performance
Siena won its fourth straight game and for the fifth time in their last six outings while keeping its opponent in single-digit scoring for all five of those victories.
The Saints' record-breaking performance is a testament to their hard work and dedication. They will look to continue their success when they host Canisius on Wednesday, March 29th.
