"See you then."

The Motivation Behind the Tour

It's the passionate surge of energy coming from his fans when he's introduced plus their response to his songs throughout so many years, that has this perennial performer returning to the stage time and again. Sir Cliff Richard has been a musical legend since the late 1950s and perhaps it's thanks to the help of the late Australian diva, Olivia Newton-John.

As one of the greatest hitmakers in British music history, Richard has sold in excess of 250 million records worldwide, securing his place among the best-selling artists of all time. Since his debut in 1958 with Move It, Richard has delivered a string of chart-topping hits, including 14 number-one singles and seven No. 1 albums.

Now he's looking forward to taking his new tour Cliff Richard, 'Can't Stop Me Now' around the world including seven shows in Australia in 2025.

Fans will be treated to a setlist packed with timeless classics, including hits such as Living Doll , We Don't Talk Anymore and Devil Woman plus many more.

Such a mammoth enterprise would challenge a much younger performer but in a candid interview with The Senior, the ever-youthful Richard said finding the motivation to perform wasn't difficult for him, as even at the age of 84 (he'll be 85 when the tour begins) he loves strutting the stage.

"I've loved singing Rock n Roll right from the first time I heard Elvis," he said. "To please a whole group at once is perfect for me.

"I'm often asked, where do I get the energy to perform?

"There was a period when I had four girl dancers and four guys and I'd dance with them - I've kind of changed that now, I 'move' - shoulders, ankles, hips, and sometimes the fans say it's great, 'you're still dancing'. I have to admit, I'm just moving - but, if you like it, I'll keep doing it!

I still try to be as different as I can - I don't want to be the same as everyone else - who does.

Richard reminisced about his many Australian touring experiences. He's toured Australia 11 times since beginning in 1973 and has 131 Aussie shows under his belt. The last time he performed live on our shores was 12 years ago.

"Australia has always been fantastic, right from the get-go. I'm looking forward to being there, and picking up from where we left off!

"My new band has been with me for a very long time - they've said, "If you can't afford to take us to Australia, we'll come for free."

Asked how his music has evolved, Richard clearly resents previous interview suggestions that it's 'predictable'.

"I like the fact that my music has changed drastically over the years."

"Move It was my first record, Living Doll was my first no.1 - it was nothing like Move It. Travelling light came next, it was something like Living Doll, but .......Devil Woman? - nothing like anything I'd done before. We don't Talk Anymore - again, nothing like anything I'd done before.

"I still try to be as different as I can - I don't want to be the same as everyone else - who does?"

The relationship Richard has with his fans is all important to him and he keeps in touch with them on Facebook although he is not a fan of the internet. However, he said it was on the stage where the real connection happens. "For me, it's the live performances that give me contact with my fans."

"They are there for you to sing to them, and when you sing, the responses to some of the songs is heartwarming," he said.

"A lot of my friends ask me what's it like getting up on the stage at the Royal Albert Hall, for instance, or anywhere for that matter, and when you're introduced, people go crazy?

"I'm not sure if I will ever get the chance, but one day, I'd love to get all my friends on stage with me, in the dark when I'm introduced, and then they'd feel the surge - it's like it's hitting me in the face or the body - I'd like my friends to have that experience as well."

What does he do before a show? "Not a lot," he said. "I don't eat before a show though. When I used to, I found myself burping; and every show I do at least 30 minutes warm up beforehand.

"Olivia Newton-John once gave me a fabulous birthday present - her vocal coach made a CD for me to learn from and practice vocal exercises. God bless her - thanks to her for doing that for me - that's what I do before a show - it's easy really."

Cliff Richard's Return to New Zealand

Sir Cliff Richard, one of Britain's all-time greatest hit makers, is coming to New Zealand to perform four shows next year.

The 84-year-old singer, known for "Living Doll", "We Don't Talk Anymore", and "Devil Woman", was last in Aotearoa in 2013. His Can't Stop Me Now tour will begin in Auckland (Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre on 14 and 15 November), before heading to Wellington (Michael Fowler Centre, 17 November) and Christchurch (Christchurch Town Hall, 19 November).

Sir Cliff has sold in excess of 250 million records worldwide and remains the only artist to achieve UK Top 5 albums across eight consecutive decades. His charitable work earned him a knighthood in 1995. Tickets will be available at Live Nation and Mellen Events, with the pre-sale starting on 16 October and the general sale beginning on 18 October.

The Cliff Richard Comeback

Cliff Richard is heading downunder for a Summer Holiday next year. After twelve years, Sir Cliff Richard is making his way back to Australia and New Zealand for dates in November 2025. The Summer Holiday hitmaker has been an Australian favourite with hits in every decade from the 50s to the 90s and multiple trips downunder. He is one of Britain’s most successful exports, selling in excess of 250 million records and securing a top five album across eight consecutive decades in the UK.

It’s been a long twelve years for Richard since his last Australian tour after being accused of sexual misconduct in a BBC report which culminated in a 2014 with a police raid on his home. In 2016 British authorities announced that there was not enough evidence for a prosecution and he was cleared of any wrongdoing. Richard vehmently denied all the claims and has subsequently spoken out on the impact the allegations had on his life and career.

At the age of 85, Richard is still wowing audiences around the world once more and it may well be a once-more-in-a-lifetime experience for fans who have grown up with the singer. Mellen Events and Live Nation will hold an exclusive fan presale from 1pm Wednesday, October 16 until 9am Friday, October 18 with general tickets from 10am on October 18.
