Music legend, Paris Olympics host, and current The Voice Coach Snoop Dogg is headed to Sunday Night Football this weekend, October 6, for the high-stakes Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers rivalry game. Snoop’s exact role in the broadcast has yet to be announced, though he is an avid Steelers fan and accomplished youth football coach in his own right, so it’s no surprise to see him at the biggest NFL game of the week. So however he pops up, you can be sure he’ll have some good insights for whatever Sunday Night Football analysts Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth are cooking up for this one.
The Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers is one of the biggest rivalries in the NFL, and with both teams fighting to build an early playoff resume, it should make for a great match-up Sunday night at 7:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock for Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys are looking to get things back on track after a 2-2 start to the season behind quarterback Dak Prescott, while the 3-1 Steelers are in the midst of their own quarterback debate, with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson both potential options to get snaps against the Cowboys.
Having Snoop join in on Sunday Night Football this weekend seems like the perfect fit after his breakout success as an ambassador and commentator at the Paris Olympics over the summer. Snoop is a longtime Steelers fan, and even adopted their “terrible towel” approach on The Voice, with special “Team Snoop” towels for the audience to show off when Coach Snoop is vying for a Blind Audition.
Snoop has been a great addition as one of the new Season 26 Coaches on The Voice (alongside Michael Buble), channeling his decades of music experience and youth league coaching pedigree to bring a unique angle to the beloved music competition series. If you can coach football, who’s to say you can’t also coach The Voice, right?
Be sure to tune in to Sunday Night Football this Sunday night at 7:20 p.m. ET to see Snoop providing that commentary that only he can for the Cowboys vs. Steelers game –– and also catch him all season on The Voice on NBC!
Snoop's Steelers Fandom
Rapper Snoop Dogg has never been shy about his affinity for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sunday, he certainly didn’t keep a low profile while in attendance at a Steelers game. Snoop was ubiquitous at Acrisure Stadium throughout the early evening Sunday up to the originally-scheduled start time of a game against the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff was delayed by a heavy storm passing though the area.
The official social-media accounts of the NFL and the Steelers posted multiple videos and photos of Snoop’s antics on the field. Wearing a jacket adorned with several Steelers logos, black pants with Steelers-style gold and white striping down the legs and black-and-gold sneakers, Snoop was filmed admiring the natural grass turf and the midfield painted logo, as well as riding an exercise bike on the sidelines and mingling with the Steelers special-teamers.
Snoop over the past week had teased his visit to Pittsburgh for the game, which was broadcast by NBC. Snoop had done work for the network during the Olympics over the summer.
Snoop, whose given name is Calvin Broadus, was born and raised in Southern California. The 52-year-old is an avid sports fan — mostly of Los Angeles-area teams. He has said he became a fan of the Steelers as a youth in the 1970s because of his grandfather. The Steelers won their first of four Super Bowl championships in the 70s.
Snoop was at the Steelers UPMC Rooney Sports Complex headquarters on Saturday.
“You don’t have to ask me how excited I am to be here,” Snoop said in a post to the Steelers’ X account Sunday. “Guess where I’m at, y’all? I’m in the building. D-O, double G, is in the place to be. It’s game time, ya. Here we go.”
Snoop's Steelers Fandom: A Deeper Dive
Despite being from California and having strong ties to the West Coast, Snoop's NFL allegiances lie elsewhere. Snoop considers himself part of Steelers Nation and spends his Sundays rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
When he joined the Manningcast in 2022, the Manning brothers Payton and Eli asked him about his fandom. Snoop seems to cheer for everyone, but he considers himself a Steelers fan.
“Well in the 70s, you know, watching your dad [Archie Manning] and watching the Steelers and the Raiders and the Cowboys and the teams from the 70s, I fell in love with they great defense, the way they moved the ball, just the way they played football. It was fun to watch as a kid and as I got older, I fell more in love with them because I got a chance to meet the players, I got to meet coach [Bill] Cowher and Ben Roethlisberger, you know, Jerome Bettis and the rest of the guys and you know, I became a part of Steeler Nation.”
Snoop has stuck by Pittsburgh through these recent down years. When Ben Roethlisberger was about to retire, the Mannings asked who Snoop would want the Steelers to target. He said he wanted them to go after Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers. It's a good thing that Snoop found his fandom because of the Pittsburgh defense because that has been the best part of their team the last few seasons.
Snoop Dogg, More Than Just a Steelers Fan
When you see Snoop out in the world, you are often reminded just how tall he is as he towers over the people around him. His big personality certainly helps, but given his body type, Snoop always looms large.
While Snoop Dogg can seem larger than life, he may be shorter than you think. He stands at 6-foot-4. NFL players are often scrutinized for their height. We typically hear about it when dealing with quarterbacks, as players at that position under 6 feet tall face questions about their ability to play at the highest level — and indeed, the tallest player in the 2024 season is Lions tackle Dan Skipper, who stands at 6-10. Snoop wouldn't line up with the league's tallest players. But he would still be eye-to-eye or taller than many of the big name players in the NFL.
Snoop was born in Long Beach, California, on Oct. 20, 1971. He is 52 and will turn 53 later this month. Given all of his ventures, Snoop has generated a lot of wealth for himself. It is estimated that in 2024, he is worth approximately $160 million.
