Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season wraps up in Pittsburgh tonight with the Steelers hosting the New York Giants. The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their final injury report of the week as they make their final preparations for the New York Giants in Week 8. The Steelers have won their last two games to get to 5-2 on the year. Russel Wilson made his debut at quarterback for Pittsburgh in last week's win and will start again tonight with Justin Fields sidelined with a hamstring injury.

At 2-5, another Giants season is slipping away. New York has mustered just 10 points total in its last two losses and faces one of the league's best defenses against the Steelers tonight. At least Giants fans can watch their sensational rookier receiver this evening and dream of brighter days ahead. Malik Nabers returned to the lineup last week after sitting out two games with a concussion.

The Giants and Steelers kick off tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT) on ABC, ESPN and ESPN Plus. You can flip over to ESPN2 or ESPN Plus during the game to catch the ManningCast with brothers Peyton and Eli, the popular alternative broadcast where the former NFL greats analyze the game and chat with different guests each week. If you don't have a cable or satellite TV subscription, you can watch Monday Night Football with a live TV streaming service. The good news for football fans is that ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 are available on all five major streaming services.

The Steelers enter the game with a few key injuries to key players. Running back/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) was listed as doubtful for Monday night's contest. He hasn't played since suffering his injury against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. There was some hope that Patterson could return to game action against the Giants after registering as a limited participant throughout the week. The Steelers aren't completely shutting the door on that possibility, though it would appear to be murky at best.

Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson (hamstring) was officially ruled out against the Giants. He did not participate in practice throughout the week after going down with his injury ahead of the team's Week 7 bout with the New York Jets. Per a report from Pittsburgh Sports Now's Alan Saunders, Wilson aggravated his hamstring in practice on Wednesday, which worsened his condition and overall outlook.

Outside linebacker Nick Herbig (hamstring) was also ruled out. He has not stepped on the practice field since leaving Pittsburgh's Week 5 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie center Zach Frazier (ankle) has not participated since his injury occurred versus the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. He was ruled out against the Giants as a result, and the Steelers will have to wait until after the Week 9 bye for him to suit up. Offensive tackle Dylan Cook (foot) and linebacker Tyler Matakevich (hamstring), both of whom have had their 21-day practice windows opened while on injured reserve, will miss Monday Night Football as well.

Cook returned to practice last week and was a full participant each of the past three days, though he's not ready to be activated to the 53-man roster. The same can be said for Matakevich, who appeared at practice for the first time since Week 2 and was limited in each session. Defensive backs Damontae Kazee (ankle), Donte Jackson (shoulder) and DeShon Elliott (back) as well as defensive tackle Keeanu Benton (calf) all did not receive a game designation.

The Pittsburgh Steelers exit Week 8 and Monday night with a 26-18 victory and a seemingly clean bill of health against the New York Giants to advance to 6-2 on the season. After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin noted few in-game injuries. “We had some bumps and bruises associated with play, but I think everyone who went down were able to return to the game,” Tomlin said via Steelers.com in his postgame press conference.

LT Dan Moore Jr. briefly left the game after appearing to be accidentally kicked at the end of a run play in the second half. While he was down for several moments, he later returned to the game. Moore was replaced by veteran Calvin Anderson, who promptly gave up a 3rd-and-goal sack that forced the Steelers to settle for another field goal. They finished the night 0-4 in the red zone. With a Week 9 bye, the team will have extra time to rest up and hopefully can get several of those players back ahead of their Week 10 game versus the Washington Commanders. Patterson practiced on a limited basis all last week while two players on injured reserve, LB Tyler Matakevich (hamstring) and OT Dylan Cook (foot), could get activated. WR Roman Wilson was placed on injured reserve prior to the game and will miss at least the next four weeks.

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers will have two of their three-headed running back unit. Najee Harris continues to play well and Jaylen Warren is working himself back into the mix but the Steelers aren't going to have Cordarrelle Patterson this week against the New York Giants. Patterson suffered an ankle injury in Week Four against the Indianapolis Colts. Patterson was called into a heavier workload when Warren was injured and he added some significant explosion and energy to the rushing attack. Patterson has missed the last three games and will miss one more heading into the bye week. We are hopeful with an extra week off, Patterson will be back on the field when the Steelers take on the Washington Commanders in Week 10. With Patterson out, here's what the running back depth chart looks like.

  • Najee Harris
  • Jaylen Warren
  • Aaron Shampklin

Big picture, the absence of Patterson won't have a huge outcome on the game assuming Harris and Warren stay healthy. Nevertheless, for a team that sometimes needs an injection of energy and intensity, Patterson will be missed.
