Since we’re just barely half-way through August, one could make the argument that it’s still way too early to start thinking about getting your 2025 schedule organized. On the other hand, it’s not really organizing your schedule if you don’t do it ahead of time. Oh, and more importantly, getting a jump on sorting your schedule for 2025 means you have a reason to use these amazing-looking new Studio Ghibli schedule books.
Those who prefer to note down their day-to-day schedules and appointments with physical pen and paper or simply enjoy the act of writing are in luck, as Studio Ghibli has now released its line of coveted 2025 diaries -- an extremely popular annual collection that appeals to fans of multiple franchises. This year, there are six different diaries to choose from, representing four films between them: two for My Neighbor Totoro, two for Kiki's Delivery Service, one for Laputa: Castle in the Sky and one for Spirited Away. Each features unique artwork and cover colors, as seen in the images below.
A total of six designs are on offer, representing four Hayao Miyazaki-directed anime classics: My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Castle in the Sky/Laputa.
The two diaries for My Neighbor Totoro may well be among the most popular of the collection, as the family-friendly film enjoys major global appeal across all demographics. The first comes in a vivid teal color and features the titular forest creature holding an umbrella, with Satsuki and Mei on the back cover, while the second stars Totoro again but using a simpler sketch-style design atop a more natural and subdued moss-green shade.
Not surprisingly, the cuddly forest spirit shows up more than once in the lineup, with the first being an A6-size (105 x 148 millimeters [4.1 x 5.8 inches]) notebook showing Totoro as he appeared in the rainy night bus stop scene. There’s artwork of sisters Satsuki and Mei on the back of the synthetic leather cover…
…and inside you’ll find beautiful illustrations along with 128 pages for a 2025-2026 calendar, weekly and monthly schedules, and various other memo spaces. The monthly schedule pages actually start with the beginning of October 2025, and the weekly schedule pages begin from December 2024, so you can even get some active use out of the book before this year is over.
Both Kiki's Delivery Service diaries are red, with one a bright crimson starring both Kiki and Jiji as the girl flies through the sky on her witch's broom; the second is a darker “wine-red” with a larger illustration of Jiji sitting alone, an expression of curiosity or perhaps slight surprise on his face.
Similar contents can be found in the A6-size Kiki’s Delivery Service schedule book, with little witch Kiki and black cat pal Jiji going for a magic broom ride with some musical accompaniment on the cover.
The diary for Laputa: Castle in the Sky sports a deep, calm blue color scheme with the Tiger Moth aircraft on the front and the two main characters, Sheeta and Pazu, on the back. Rounding out the collection is the Spirited Away diary, whose cover is a soft, neutral brown; it shows Chihiro and No-Face seated next to each other on a train, as in one of the movie's most iconic scenes when the pair travels to visit Yubaba's identical twin sister, Zeniba.
The other four schedule books are in a larger A5 size (148 x 210 millimeters), and by featuring monochrome illustrations better lend themselves to use in “business scenes,” according to the designers.
Once again we see Totoro holding an umbrella, but his determined expression reveals that this illustration is taken from the magical moonlight camphor tree-growing scene.
▼ Though it’s going to be hard to write something like “Going out for ice cream” in the schedule right by that picture of Chihiro’s dad after being transformed into a slovenly pig.
The A5 organizers have 80 pages, but with the same calendar and weekly/monthly schedule formats as the A6 books.
Jiji also makes a second front cover appearance, this time with Kiki flying solo on the back.
And for the sixth and final schedule book, the Laputa sky pirates commandeer the cover with their Tiger Moth mother ship, relegating Sheeta and Pazu to the back.
Along with Totoro, Spirited Away’s Chihiro and No Face grace one of the large schedule book covers.
Each diary is touted as having text that is easy to read, with designs appropriate even for business environments. They are dated from October 2024 to January 2026, meaning fans don’t need to wait until next year in order to use them. The contents of all the diaries include a full calendar, schedule pages, lined and unlined spaces for notes, cut-out image note options and an age chart. The more brightly colored Totoro and Kiki diaries are size A6 with 128 pages, while the other four diaries come in a larger A5 format, each with 80 pages. However, all cost the same 2,090 yen (approximately US$14), regardless of size or design.
Studio Ghibli's extensive film catalog, including My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away, is available to stream on Max for viewers in the U.S. and Japan. For those located in Canada, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, the same films can be watched on Netflix.
