Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are always looking to support one another in their careers, and that includes the pop star drawing up football plays for her boyfriend.
During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end shared how Swift has been especially interested in learning more about the sport.
“She had just been so open to learning the game, she didn’t know much about the rules and everything,” Kelce explained. “I think what makes her so good in her profession is that she’s so detailed in every aspect of it — from the words to the music to even the releases and the music videos and everything. She’s so detailed and a part of it that I think she was just curious about the profession.”
So much so that she’s even created some plays of her own. “I know none of the plays have gotten to Coach Reid yet, but if they ever do, I’ll make sure everyone knows it was her creation,” he added.
However, Kelce quipped that Swift’s plays are understandably centered around her favorite player: “She’s a little biased and just creates plays for me. We’ll see if they can make it to Coach Reid’s office.”
Kelce’s comments came after Patrick Mahomes first revealed last month that Swift had an interest in playcalling. “She’s really interested in football. She asks a lot of great questions. She’s already drawing up plays, so we might have to put one in,” the quarterback told NBC commentator Chris Simms.
The Grammy-winning singer and Chiefs tight end have been romantically linked since September 2023, after they first sparked dating rumors when Swift attended her first Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears. Throughout the season, the singer continued to show her support for Kelce at games, including at the Super Bowl, which saw the Chiefs win. As for Kelce, he made regular appearances at Swift’s Eras Tour shows over the summer.
Swift's Plays for Kelce: A Biased Strategy
Kelce's revelation has ignited a wave of curiosity among fans and media alike. While the idea of a pop superstar crafting football plays is undeniably intriguing, some have raised questions about the practicality of Swift's strategy, particularly given her focus on Kelce's success.
“It’s great that Swift is interested in football,” said former NFL coach Mike Holmgren, in an interview with ESPN. “But I think it’s important to remember that playcalling is a complex process that requires a deep understanding of the game.”
Holmgren added, “While Swift's plays might be fun and creative, they’re likely to be very specific to Kelce’s skills, which might not necessarily translate to a broader team strategy.”
Is Swift a Play-Calling Prodigy?
Despite the skepticism, some fans are holding out hope that Swift's play-calling acumen could surprise everyone.
“I wouldn’t underestimate her,” said a fan, who goes by the name of “ChiefsFan4Life,” on a popular online sports forum. “Swift is a perfectionist, and she's shown that she's willing to put in the work to learn new things. Who knows, maybe her plays will be the key to another Super Bowl victory for the Chiefs.”
It remains to be seen whether Swift’s plays will ever see the light of day on the gridiron. However, one thing is certain: her interest in football and her desire to support her boyfriend are a testament to the power of a love that transcends even the most unlikely of pairings.
