The Tennessee Titans are nearing the end of their preseason schedule. Brian Callahan’s club will have one final tune-up before the Week 1 regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears.

Following this Sunday’s exhibition game against the New Orleans Saints, the Titans will vote on the team’s leadership group for the 2024 NFL season. Callahan noted that the team captains will wear the “C” patch on their uniforms, as Jim Wyatt reported on Wednesday.

Here is a look at our predictions for which players might don the captaincy this season.

The Titans turn to second-year quarterback Will Levis with the hope that the former 33rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft can become the face of the franchise. Despite an up-and-down rookie season, Levis showed flashes of his potential last year. However, he will need to be more consistent while leading the Titans through the 17-game schedule.

Derrick Henry is no longer in the backfield for the Titans. However, Tennessee signed free-agent running back Tony Pollard this offseason. He comes to Nashville with over 700 carries and over 3,600 career rushing yards on his resume. Pollard is expected to be in a split-share role with second-year back Tyjae Spears, but his experience will be invaluable to a Titans roster seeking a new identity.

DeAndre Hopkins or Calvin Ridley here for me, but I chose the latter. Ridley was another offseason prize that the Titans hope will help Levis reach his goals this season. The 29-year-old eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in receiving yards last year, and he figures a primary target in Tennessee’s new-look offense.

Last year, it was Aaron Brewer who represented the offensive line. However, the Titans went out and signed the top center in free agency, Lloyd Cushenberry, to shore up the middle of the offensive line. The 26-year-old has nearly 60 games and 3,700 snaps of NFL experience under his belt. Cushenberry will be the center (no pun intended) of a unit that will look to keep quarterback Will Levis upright.

Fairly straightforward here: Jeffery Simmons served in a leadership role during the 2023 NFL season. The defense underwent some changes both from a personnel and coaching standpoint during the offseason, and the 27-year-old is now the unquestioned leader not just on the defensive line but the Titans’ defense.

Murray was signed in free agency to bolster the middle of the Titans defense. The 25-year-old is expected to call the plays on Dennard Wilson’s defense this season, which naturally comes with a lot of extra responsibility. Murray registered over 100 tackles for the second time in his career last season. Still, he will look to improve his pass coverage in Wilson’s aggressive scheme.

The 38-year-old returns for his fourth season in Nashville and 15th NFL season overall. Cox served in a leadership role for the Titans last year, and this one is a no-brainer for me.

Who are the favorites to be a Titans captain in 2024?

The Titans have a few players that have emerged as favorites to be named a captain this season. Among the players who are most likely to be selected are:

Jeffery Simmons

Jeffery Simmons has been a key player for the Titans since he was drafted in 2019. He is a powerful defensive lineman and is considered one of the best players at his position in the NFL. Simmons has been a captain in the past, and he is a natural leader on and off the field.

Morgan Cox

Morgan Cox has been with the Titans for four seasons and is a reliable long snapper. He is a veteran player who has played in the NFL for over a decade. Cox is known for his work ethic and his ability to lead by example.

Lloyd Cushenberry

Lloyd Cushenberry is a new addition to the Titans, but he has a lot of experience in the NFL. He has started over 50 games in his career, and he is a proven leader on the offensive line.

Kenneth Murray

Kenneth Murray is another new addition to the Titans, but he is a talented linebacker who has the potential to be a leader on defense. He is a hard worker who is always willing to learn and improve.

Will Levis

Will Levis is a young quarterback who is still developing, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. He is a natural leader who has the potential to be a franchise quarterback.
