Investigators have identified a 25-year-old man sought for last week’s brazen daylight shooting that killed two men in their 20s at a government housing complex in North York.

Toronto Police say gunfire erupted at the complex at 9 Driftwood Ave. – near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W. – around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officers responded to the complex and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds in a courtyard. They also located two firearms on scene.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the other died later in hospital.

The victims have since been identified as Ibrahim Handule, 26, and Deshawn Walters, 27.

As previously reported by the Toronto Sun, Ibrahim Handule was the brother of Farah Hersi Handule, 23, who had been wanted for a 2017 murder in Ottawa when he was gunned down in Calgary in 2019.

Their brother, Abdulkadir Handule was 27 when he was convicted of forcible confinement for a 2019 kidnapping in B.C. in June 2023. At the time, he was already serving a life sentence for the deadly 2018 shootings of Jahvante Smart, 21, aka Smoke Dawg, and Ernest Modekwe, 28, aka Koba Prime, in Toronto’s Entertainment District.

At least two of the Handule brothers were once aspiring rappers – Abdulkadir Handule went by the stage name 21 Neat and Farah Hersi Handule was known as 22 Filthy.

The second victim in the Driftwood shooting, Deshawn Walters, 27, was an alleged member of the street gang the Young Buck Killas when he was charged in the kidnapping and torture of two teenage boys in 2016. The outcome of those charges is unclear, but Walters was also caught up in a firearms trafficking bust that same year.

On Thursday, Investigators released images of a suspect in the driftwood double murder hoping members of the public could help identify the man.

Police have now revealed that investigators now believe they know the identity of that suspect.

“The suspect has been identified as Yahye Hussein Mohamud, 25, of Toronto,” Homicide Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell said in a statement released Saturday.

Cops are still trying to track down the suspect, who is wanted for second-degree murder.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts, or this double murder, is urged to call the Homicide Unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
