Troye Sivan has responded to a ‘homophobic’ claim that he’s on tour with Charli XCX to “hit Grindr at every stop”.
The “Rush” hitmaker has currently embarked on his joint Sweat Tour with Charli XCX after she declared the end of “Brat Summer”. Despite the North American tour dates being 95 per cent sold (aside from Nashville, which is 78 per cent sold out), according to Sivan, a gossip column claimed that “he is just happy to be on the road and hitting Grindr at every stop”.
The gossip claims continued: “[Sivan]’s label doesn’t contribute at all to his tour, so he doesn’t really care about sales… If the ticket sales don’t increase, the label is likely to pull the plug.”
On 15 September, Sivan responded to the claims in the since-deleted TikTok from the celebrity blind items account @celebriteablinds_. He said: “Straight people are getting way too comfortable… [Charli and I] are playing 22 shows across the country that are 95% sold out, by the way. The only city that we’re flopping in is Nashville, and it’s at 78%.”
The 2023 Man of the Year winner rightly pointed out that the claim perpetuates “genuinely homophobic” stereotypes, particularly when it comes to the gay community and hookup culture. “Don’t sex shame me.”
The “One Of Your Girls” singer continued: “First of all, I don’t need to travel the country to get laid. I can get laid wherever I want. I can get laid in LA.
“I’m going on tour because I released an album, and because people are buying tickets to see the show. So, f*** you.”
Troye Sivan has reacted with irritation to a TikTok video that makes the spurious claim he’s only on tour with Charli XCX for one reason: To take advantage of the opportunity to use Grindr in a string of North American cities and enjoy hook-ups.
Sivan and British singer Charli XCX are currently engaged in their joint headline ‘Sweat’ tour. Both have albums to promote. The two friends have collaborated before, on the track “1999,” so share some stage time together during “Sweat.”
The video Sivan was reacting to was posted by a celebrity gossip blogger called Celebritea Blinds. She reads out an anonymous source that claims, with zero evidence or citation, that sales of tickets for the Sweat tour are low, but that Sivan doesn’t care: “He is just happy to be on the road and hitting Grindr at every stop.”
Here was Sivan’s response.
“Straight people are getting way too comfortable,” he began.
“I released an album. I am touring the album with Charli XCX. We are playing 22 shows across the country that are 95% sold out, by the way. The only city we’re flopping in is Nashville, and it’s at 78%,” he clarifies.
“But to say I am touring the country to go on Grindr at every stop, like, that’s genuinely homophobic,” Sivan continued. “It’s like a stereotype. Don’t sex shame me!”
“First of all, I don’t need to travel the country to get laid. I can get laid wherever I want! I’m going on tour because I released an album. Because people are buying tickets to come see the show. So, f*ck you.”
He added, “Also, and this is just a general note. If you say twink when you meant to say f*ggot, that’s still a slur. That’s like our word. I don’t think straight people should be using that.”
Troye Sivan has set the record straight regarding a Grindr-based blind item.
On 14 September, the Aussie superstar and pop icon Charli XCX kicked off their joint North American tour, Sweat, in Detroit, Michigan.
Like their summer performances, the setlist consists of tracks from their extensive catalogue – including their critically acclaimed albums Something To Give Each Other and BRAT.
While the tour has already received rave reviews from fans and critics, it has also been subjected to outlandish rumours, like Sivan’s motivations for the batch of shows.
On 14 September, the 28-year-old talent took to his TikTok account to shut down an online blind item – which was covered by TikTok account Celebritea Blinds – that targeted Sweat’s ticket sales and his alleged excitement to “hit Grindr” at every tour stop.
“Straight people are getting way too comfortable. I released an album. I am touring the album with Charli XCX. We are playing 22 shows across the country that are 95% sold out by the way. The only city we’re flopping in is Nashville, and it’s at 78%,” he exclaimed.
“But to say that I am touring the country to go on Grindr at every stop, like that’s genuinely homophobic. It’s a stereotype. Don’t sex shame me.”
Sivan went on to say that he has no trouble “getting laid” and doesn’t need to travel the country to do so.
“I can get laid wherever I want. I can get laid in LA. I’m going on tour because I released an album and because people are buying tickets to come see the show. So f**k you,” he continued.
“Also, this is not for her. This is a general note: if you say twink when you meant to say f****t, that’s still a slur. That’s like our word. I don’t think straight people should be using that.”
Out gay pop singer Troye Sivan has recently addressed a ‘blind item’ circulating alleging he is using his tour for Grindr hookups.
On 14 September, while beginning his highly anticipated North American tour, Sweat, with Charli XCX in Detroit, the Australian pop sensation made a statement online via Tik Tok about the claims.
The blind item about Troye Sivan, which is essentially an anonymous news story, which was picked up by TikTok account Celebritea Blinds, alleged that Sivan was only using his tour as a means to meet people on Grindr.
In a candid TikTok video, Sivan refuted these claims, clapping back, hard.
“Straight people are getting way too comfortable” he stated.
“I released an album. I am touring the album with Charli XCX. We are playing 22 shows across the country that are 95% sold out by the way.”
“The only city we’re flopping in is Nashville, and it’s at 78%.”
However Sivan didn’t stop there.
He continued by confronting the offensive nature of the claims.
“But to say that I am touring the country to go on Grindr at every stop, like that’s genuinely homophobic.”
“It’s a stereotype. Don’t sex shame me.”
Sivan also made it clear that his tour was about celebrating his music, not about get laid all across the country.
“I can get laid wherever I want. I can get laid in LA” he said.
“I’m going on tour because I released an album and because people are buying tickets to come see the show. So f**k you,” he declared.
His words were met with overwhelming support from fans and the broader community, including a supportive nod from Grindr’s official TikTok account, which responded with a simple but emphatic “period.”
Troye Sivan has hit back at an anonymous online gossip story that claimed his joint US tour with Charli XCX is suffering from poor ticket sales.
Sivan, 29, and XCX, 32, recently kicked off their arena tour in Detroit.
On TikTok, a viral post by @celebriteablinds repeated a blind gossip blog post about the tour that claimed “sales are low” and that XCX’s label is “getting ticked off. They tell her everyday to post to her social media about the tour, but she can’t be bothered because she is partying too much.”
In addition, the post claimed that Sivan “doesn’t really care about sales, He is just happy to be on the road and hitting Grindr at every stop.”
In a response on his own TikTok channel, Sivan said: “Straight people are getting way too comfortable. I released an album. I am touring the album with Charli XCX.”
He continued: “We are playing 22 shows across the country that are 95% sold out, by the way! The only city that we’re flopping in is Nashville, and it’s at 78%.”
Sivan added: “But to say that I am touring the country to go on Grindr at every stop, that’s genuinely homophobic. It’s a stereotype. Don’t sex shame me. First of all, I don’t need to travel the country to get laid. I can get laid wherever I want. I can get laid in LA.
“I’m going on tour because I released an album, because people are buying tickets to come to see the show. So f*** you.”
Sivan released his third album Something To Give Each Other in October. XCX released her sixth album Brat in June.
Earlier this month, XCX officially announced the end of brat summer.
The concept of being Brat became a cultural phenomenon following the release of the “Guess” singer’s so-named album, which promotes a hedonistic lifestyle of relentless partying with tracks including “360” and “Club classics”.
According to the artist, anyone – including Kamala Harris – can be brat. In an interview, she explained: “It can go that way, quiet luxury, but it can also be so trashy. Just a pack of cigs and a Bic lighter and a strappy white top. With no bra. That’s, like, kind of all you need.”
Just under three months after the release of her Brat album XCX declared the end of brat summer on Monday, September 2. Writing on X/Twitter, she said: “goodbye forever brat summer,” which was met with a mixture of devastated and optimistic responses from thousands of fans.
