La Liga outfit Villarreal have on Monday sealed an agreement for a fresh addition to the club’s attacking ranks.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Thierno Barry as the player all set to link up with the Yellow Submarine.

Barry, for his part, is a 21-year-old attacker who generally operates in a centre-forward role, but is also capable of taking to the pitch on either wing.

After something of a breakout campaign with Basel last time out, which saw him rack up 12 goals and five assists, Barry has since absolutely exploded over the early weeks of the new Swiss season.

Remarkably, in four appearances to date, the youngster has found the net on no fewer than eight occasions.

Such exploits have caught the eye of a whole host of clubs across the continent, amid the belief that Barry possesses all of the requisite tools to develop into something of a star.

And, as alluded to above, on Monday, one such club have won out in the race for his signature.

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano:

‘Villarreal have agreed [a] deal to sign 21-year-old talent Thierno Barry on €15m package from Basel.’

The finer details of the agreement will be sorted imminently, before the striker flies out to Spain to pen terms with Marcelino’s side later this week.

AFC Bournemouth are chasing FC Basel’s Thierno Barry, according to Monday’s edition AS.

The striker managed 12 goals and five assists from 37 games last season and has starred this season, scoring eight goals from four matches.

Bournemouth, along with Villarreal, AS Monaco and TSG Hoffenheim all want to sign him this summer.

The La Liga side have cashed in €32m from Alexander Sørloth’s sale to Atlético Madrid earlier this month. Their idea is to spend part of that fee on signing two new attackers.

Villarreal have already secured Ayoze Pérez’s services and are working to sign Barry. They will have to battle it out with Bournemouth and two other clubs to secure his services.

It’s claimed the Yellow Submarine, who are already negotiating a deal for the 21-year-old, are willing to offer a fee between €12m and €15m.

Blick relay claims made elsewhere about Bournemouth and other interested parties and then give their own take on this case. The Cherries links are good for the Swiss club as it ‘drives up Barry’s price’.

Meanwhile, Basel manager Fabio Celestini has left the door open for the player to leave the club in this window.

“I can only say that Thierno is focused. And he didn’t want to leave the field when I told him during the break that I was taking him out. Maybe the right offer is still missing. And it’ll be there in an hour. That’s just how it is,” he said.

With Villarreal already negotiating a deal, Bournemouth will have to step up if they want to win the battle for Barry’s signature.

Villarreal are set to make their season debut on Monday evening against Atletico Madrid, and they will be facing their top scorer from last season, as Alexander Sorloth lines up for Los Rojiblancos at La Ceramica. While he will not be available for the clash, it does appear the Yellow Submarine have found their replacement.

As per Relevo, Villarreal have agreed a deal for imposing target man Thierno Barry. The FC Basel striker will head to Castellon for a fee between €12m and €15m, depending on variables, and is due to fly to Spain in the next 24 hours.

The 21-year-old French forward, formerly of Sochaux and then Beveren in Belgium, scored 12 goals last season for Basel in 37 appearances, giving five assists. He has started off the season on fire for the Swiss giants though, scoring 8 times in just 283 minutes so far. Barry is mobile and sizeable, in a similar sense to Sorloth, and Marcelino Garcia Toral will be hoping he carries that form with him to La Ceramica.

After signing for Atlético de Madrid, Villarreal seems to have chosen the replacement for Alexander Sorloth

Thierno Barry, a 21-year-old French forward, is on the verge of making the leap to LaLiga after completing his transfer from Basel to Villarreal. The young attacker, who has stood out as one of the brightest prospects in European football, arrives at the Spanish club with the challenging task of filling the shoes of Alexander Sorloth, who recently left the team to join Atletico Madrid. Villarreal, aiming to stay competitive after losing their top scorer, is confident that Barry can be the ideal replacement to lead their attack.

Barry's performance in the last season with Basel was remarkable, scoring 12 goals and showcasing his scoring instinct. However, it is his start to the current campaign that has convinced Villarreal to make the financial effort to sign him. With eight goals in just four matches, the forward has shown exceptional form, hastening negotiations between the two clubs. The deal, closed at around 12-14 million euros, demonstrates the Yellow Submarine's strong commitment to a talent that promises to make a mark in Spanish football.

Villarreal has been traditionally adept at identifying and nurturing young talents, and Barry's arrival aligns perfectly with this philosophy. At 21, the French striker faces a significant challenge: adapting to one of the most competitive leagues in the world and filling the void left by Sorloth, a player beloved by the fans. Nevertheless, initial impressions of his goal-scoring ability are optimistic.

With this signing, Villarreal continues to strengthen its squad in a transfer market that has been particularly active for the club. Barry's addition sends a clear message that the team remains committed to competing at the highest level, both in LaLiga and European competitions. The Estadio de la Cerámica crowd eagerly anticipates watching their new forward in action, trusting that Barry can be the piece that helps them achieve their ambitious goals this season.

Earlier this month, Villarreal sold Alexander Sorloth to Atletico Madrid for a fee in region of €35m. They’ve managed to sign Ayoze Perez for just €4m using those funds, although the club’s idea is still for another attacker to be signed as more of a replacement for the Norwegian marksman.

Borja Mayoral was considered until concerns were raised about his recent knee injury, while there has also been links to Youssoufa Moukoko and David Datro Fofana. Villarreal officials have now settled on Thierno Barry as their primary target, and negotiations are already underway with FC Basel, as revealed by Florian Plettenburg.

AFC Bournemouth have also presented an offer for Barry, but it is Villarreal that currently lead the race for his signature. The 21-year-old has five goals in three Super League matches so far this season, having scored 12 during the previous campaign.

A younger signing certainly makes sense for Villarreal, and Barry would be the latest under-23 player to join Marcelino Garcia Toral’s squad. If they can get this one over the line, it’d be a very shrewd move.
