Hollywood superstar Will Ferrell is expected to attend his first Leeds United match since becoming a minority shareholder today. The 57-year-old is due to be in attendance at Elland Road for Saturday’s lunchtime clash with Burnley and could be sat with Paraag Marathe in the directors’ box.
The Anchorman lead is understood to have invested in the club in May and there were hopes he may have attended Wembley’s play-off final, but he was not present. Ferrell is among a raft of celebrities and sports stars who have invested in the Whites as part of the 49ers Enterprises vehicle.
Since the summer of last year, 49ers Enterprises has owned the club after completing a £170m buyout transaction. Russell Crowe, another actor, has an interest in Leeds already, having 'considered' purchasing the team in 2015 before formally investing with 49ers too.
The San Francisco 49ers NFL team's financial arm currently owns Leeds, and among their shareholders are several American athletes, such as golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas. Ferrell is best known for his roles in the movies Elf, Anchorman, Step Brothers, Daddy's Home and Bewitched.
He is a part-owner of Los Angeles FC, a Major League Soccer team, and an avid sports lover. Ferrell saw a game in February 2023 featuring Wrexham, who are owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Leeds vs Burnley: A Clash of Promotion Favorites
Leeds host Burnley today in a clash of the bookmakers’ two favorites for automatic promotion. Max Wober and Daniel James are expected to be the only players missing for the Whites as Ferrell watches on.

Ferrell’s First Leeds Game: A Test for Farke and the Whites
Will Ferrell is expected to be in attendance at Elland Road when Leeds United take on Burnley, according to Beren Cross.
The Leeds Live journalist reported via X on the morning of the game (14 September) that the celebrity Whites investor is due to be there to watch Daniel Farke’s side.
Farke will hope that if the Anchorman star is in attendance this time the outcome will be more positive than the Southampton clash he wasn’t able to see in the summer.
Following another uncertain start to the season while the transfer window was still open the Whites appear to have found some rhythm after a pair of 2-0 wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City.
But relegated Burnley are expected to be one of their promotion rivals so the visit of Scott Parker’s side will be a test.

Late-window activity has restocked Farke’s squad after losing a host of key stars but the German has been left unhappy to miss out on a number 10 [Graham Smyth, 2 September].
Angus Kinnear has been speaking to The Square Ball (12 September) about how difficult that was to tackle, with attempts to sign the likes of Emi Buendia from Aston Villa knocked back, and the controversial bid for Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer going nowhere.
It’s a new-look side in many ways but Farke is going to have to ensure it goes one better than the Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter vintage of last term.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites thought they were at the front of the queue to sign a Liverpool ace but were blasted out of the water.
