Is there any better way to unwind after a busy week than a cosy movie night-in complete with your family’s favourite snacks? With Halloween around the corner, adding a scary, yet kid-friendly, film into the mix is the perfect recipe for a great evening!
Here are 11 spooky movies that are actually kid-friendly:
Hocus Pocus
This is a classic that needs to be viewed at least once a year. Although released over twenty years ago, the film hasn’t lost its charm and is still loved by the younger generations. And Hocus Pocus 2 is now on the streaming service, too – have you watched it?
Nightmare Before Christmas
Is it a Christmas film or a Halloween film? Opinions are divided, but it is such a brilliant movie that you can look forward to watching it during both seasons!
Onward
Onward is such a lovely film. Technically, it isn’t a Halloween film, but is about two elves and is full of magic and mystery so perfect for the little ones this Halloween.
Frankenweenie
Another Tim Burton movie, Frankenweenie is a play on the Frankenstein story. In it, a little boy called Victor brings his dog back from the dead and let’s just say, chaos ensues. It is a nice, fun and slightly scary movie (for kids) so perfect for Halloween.
Halloweentown
This is a blast from the past and is perfect to enjoy with your kids on Halloween. It is more fun than scary and with four in the series, you could have a Halloweentown marathon – evening sorted!
The Haunted Mansion
This is an enjoyable kids’ horror/comedy that the kids will just love! With Eddie Murphy playing the lead role of realtor Jim Evers, this 2003 flick is such a fun family-friendly Halloween watch.
Underwraps
Three 12-year-old friends accidentally revive a mummy they named Harold that they discovered in a neighbour’s basement. They must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween.
Muppets Haunted Mansion
On Halloween night, Gonzo is challenged to spend one night in The Haunted Mansion. For any muppets fan, this is definitely one to add to the collection!
Super Monsters Save Halloween
Sitting at just 24 minutes long this Netflix Special is ideal for some afternoon viewing. The Super Monsters help a friend learn that Halloween is not so scary, and they use their powers to get the neighbourhood in a Halloween mood.
Hotel Transylvania
Hotel Transylvania is a home away from home for monsters (only!) but when it’s unexpectedly visited by a human visitor, all sorts of high jinx ensue.
Goosebumps
Jack Black stars as a fictionalised version of real life Goosebumps author RL Stine. When a new kid befriends his daughter and the scary world he created starts to become real, they all must band together to protect the world from monsters!
