TERRIFIFYING rage-infected humans wreaking havoc in director Danny Boyle’s 28 Days film franchise have been upstaged – by ROBOTS.

People living near the set of the post-apocalyptic horror franchise’s latest instalment tell me they have been spooked by three-legged machines. The critters have been put in place to stop ramblers accidentally wandering on to the set of 28 Years Later on the outskirts of Newcastle.

Jodie Comer has been spotted filming in the countryside over the summer, with fans getting in touch to tell me they had a fright when walking nearby. One said: “Danny and his team had put in really stringent security measures on the site to make sure locals didn’t just walk into view. “The area is really eerie and remote, but it’s used by a lot of ramblers. “It’s a vast area to cover and some walking groups were caught out by these censored robots that start shouting. It’s really loud. This group of ramblers jumped out of their skins when it happened.” “The tapes would be funny to watch back, given the looks on their faces,” the source added.

Here’s hoping any clips of the encounters make Danny’s director’s cut . . .

We told in May how Cillian Murphy was back on board for the project, the third film in the series, after he starred in the first from 2002. He is reprising his role as Jim, alongside stars including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Ralph Fiennes and Jodie. Jodie said earlier this summer that she had been watching old clips of Cheryl Tweedy judging on The X Factor to brush up on her Geordie accent for her role. She said: “Danny just seems like such a confident, intuitive and intelligent director. “The original was so loved, so I’m trying not to think of that too hard. I’m not putting too much expectation on myself.”

Security Measures: A Robot's Role

While the film's premise revolves around a deadly virus, the production team is taking a different approach to dealing with real-life threats - ramblers! The use of these robotic guards is a unique solution to ensure the safety of the film set and prevent any accidental disruption to filming. These machines, equipped with loud shouting capabilities, are designed to deter unsuspecting ramblers from venturing into the restricted zone. The decision to employ robots for security purposes highlights the importance of maintaining a controlled environment for such a large-scale production.

A Touch of Humor in the Face of Fear

The incident involving the ramblers adds a touch of humor to the otherwise eerie atmosphere of the film set. The reactions of the ramblers, particularly their “jumped out of their skins” response, showcase the unexpected nature of this robotic encounter. The prospect of these recordings becoming part of the director’s cut adds an element of anticipation, leaving fans curious about the inclusion of these real-life moments in the final film.

The Latest Chapter: A Return to the Post-Apocalyptic World

The third installment of the 28 Days franchise promises to be a thrilling continuation of the post-apocalyptic world established in the previous films. Cillian Murphy's return as Jim, alongside a stellar cast, creates a strong foundation for the new film. The addition of new characters like Jodie Comer's role, and the unique security measures employed, add to the intrigue surrounding this latest chapter. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the film, eager to see how the story unfolds in this gritty and suspenseful world.

28 Years Later's Legacy: A Lasting Impact

The 28 Days franchise has left an indelible mark on the horror genre, captivating audiences with its visceral portrayal of a world ravaged by a deadly virus. The films have become cultural touchstones, sparking discussions about survival, humanity, and the fragility of civilization. As the franchise continues to evolve, fans are excited to see how the latest installment will contribute to its legacy and continue to push the boundaries of the post-apocalyptic genre. The use of robots for security measures is just one example of how the franchise continues to innovate and deliver an engaging and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
