Is the known criminal Anna Delvey going to join Dancing with the Stars? It would be quite the casting choice if she was. For those unaware, Anna Sorokin – or Anna Delvey as she’s known – was a famous con artist and fraudster who’s now on house arrest for her crimes.

She posed as a wealthy heiress in order to access New York’s upper-class art scene. Reports estimate that she stole about $275,000. After defrauding wealth managers and financial advisers, Anna became quite the celebrity. She now boasts an Instagram following of over one million people. Moreover, Netflix made a series all about her, given the public’s fascination with true crime.

Now, Anna touts herself as a fashion publicist, despite still being on house arrest. Under her current sentence, she can only work and travel within 70 miles of her home. However, if the DWTS rumors are true, she may have received a pass to do some work in LA.

On August 30, Page Six reported that Anna Delvey would join Dancing with the Stars Season 33. The outlet did not reveal a source for this claim. When they reached out to one of the show’s reps, they responded that they wouldn’t comment on casting “rumors.” So, the truth of this claim remains up in the air.

But if the rumor is true, it would set a new precedent for DWTS. The show has hosted various stars who’ve faced jail time. Page Six pointed out Tommy Chong, Lil Kim, and Steve O as examples. However, if Anna were to compete, she’d be the show’s first contestant whose fame stems from her crimes.

While viewers love stories of true crime, perhaps things have gone too far. If Anna were to appear on DWTS, wouldn’t that just be rewarding her for her crimes? More than she’s already been rewarded, mind. Granted, ABC is no stranger to controversial casting choices in the ballroom.

The Controversy of a Possible Appearance

The potential of Anna Delvey on Dancing with the Stars has sparked a conversation about whether or not this is a fitting choice for the show. While some might be intrigued by the potential drama and spectacle of a con artist dancing on primetime television, others raise concerns about rewarding her for her crimes.

However, “Dancing with the Stars” has a history of casting individuals with controversial pasts. The show's previous casting choices have included figures like Tommy Chong, known for his comedic roles and involvement with cannabis, and Lil Kim, a rapper who faced legal troubles in the early 2000s. While Anna Delvey's case is different due to its nature, it remains a topic of ongoing discussion.

Beyond the Ballroom: Anna Delvey's Other Ventures

While the “Dancing with the Stars” rumor swirls, Anna Delvey has been busy building her brand beyond her legal battles. She is reportedly working on a documentary series, a celebrity dinner club concept, and a weekly podcast. She’s also launched a fashion public relations agency and signed a series of deals on Instagram to promote the USA Network series, “The Anonymous.”

Despite her past, Delvey’s ability to navigate the media landscape and cultivate an image for herself is undeniably impressive. She has managed to turn her notoriety into a platform, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to capitalize on her infamy.

The Future of a ‘Fake Heiress’

With her legal battles ongoing, Anna Delvey’s future remains uncertain. The possibility of her appearing on “Dancing with the Stars” is just one chapter in her ever-evolving narrative. Regardless of the outcome, her story continues to capture the public's imagination.

From the depths of prison to the potential spotlight of “Dancing with the Stars,” Anna Delvey has consistently defied expectations. Her past, present, and future remain a fascinating case study in celebrity, crime, and the power of public perception.

Dancing with Controversy: The Future of ‘DWTS’

As “Dancing with the Stars” prepares for its new season, The show's producers are likely contemplating the potential impact of casting Anna Delvey. Will she be a ratings boon, or will her inclusion create a backlash that overshadows the competition?

Only time will tell if the controversial figure will grace the ballroom floor. But one thing is certain: her potential participation has already generated buzz and a wave of questions about the boundaries of entertainment and the allure of the notorious.

The show returns to ABC on September 17 at 8/7c. We’ll be watching to see if Anna Delvey joins the cast and what impact her appearance might have on the show.
