Australian Idol: Marcia Hines Rushed to Hospital After 'Medical Emergency' on Set
Marcia Hines has been rushed to hospital following a 'medical emergency'. The Australian Idol judge, 70, collapsed in her dressing room on the set of the reality series on Sunday and injured her head in the fall.
A source tells Daily Mail Australia Hines was 'set to perform' on the show before collapsing and was taken to hospital via ambulance.
Daily Mail Australia understands that Hines is 'in a stable condition now' and her collapse was likely due to her diabetes.
She will not be appearing on Australian Idol tonight and Guy Sebastian is filling in as judge.
Marcia Hines' Health Condition
Hines has been a Type-1 diabetic for almost 40 years. She manages her condition with insulin injections and insists, 'I could have a lot worse things than just diabetes.'
Hines was diagnosed with diabetes after a dental procedure refused to heal. 'I wasn't sick, but I had a procedure done on one of my teeth and it just wouldn't heal – it just kept throbbing for days,' she said.
'I went to the doctor and that was when I was diagnosed with diabetes.'
Marcia Hines' Return to 'Australian Idol'
Hines was delighted to return to the judging panel for Australian Idol in 2024. She appeared on the singing competition as a judge during its first seven seasons, and she's taking her seat at the table once again.
'I was surprised and delighted because I really love that gig. I don't know if people realised how much it meant to me,' she told the Daily Telegraph.
'Why? Because like me, they just want to sing, they want to find a career in singing,' the pop star added.
Marcia Hines' Legacy
The American-Australian star says that she can thank Australian Idol for heralding her career comeback. 'I think Idol started the resurgence and then I kept being in people's consciousness, not too big, not too small, just a presence,' she said.
Hines was one of the original judges on Idol when it debuted Down Under in 2003.
The Importance of Early Diabetes Detection
Hines' experience highlights the importance of early diabetes detection and management. Diabetes is a serious condition that can lead to a number of health complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and blindness.
If you have any of the symptoms of diabetes, such as increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, or fatigue, it is important to see your doctor right away.
