Another female pop superstar has come out in support of Kamala Harris. In honor of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Billie Eilish and her brother and collaborator, FINNEAS, posted a video asking fans to visit iwillvote.com to check their voting status. Billie goes on to say, “We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy.”
“We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future,” FINNEAS continues. “The only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote, and elect Kamala Harris.”
“Vote like your life depends upon it,” Billie adds. “Because it does.”
They once again urged fans to join them in visiting iwillvote.com and voting early. The caption on the video reads, “It’s National Voter Registration Day. We are voting for Harris-Walz. The choice is clear.”
It’s likely that the siblings need to vote early because Billie’s tour in support of her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT kicks off Sept. 29 in Quebec and they’ll be on the road on Election Day.
The A-list musical siblings are the latest high-profile figures to back the Democratic presidential ticket. The sibling musicians took to Instagram on Tuesday, National Voter Registration Day, to share their election preference.
“We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy,” Eilish says in a video reel. “Vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”
Finneas adds, “We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future. The only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris.”
The duo urged people to go to iwillvote.com to check their voter registration status and make a plan to cast their ballot.
Eilish and Finneas are the latest music stars to throw their weight behind Harris in recent weeks. Perhaps the biggest celebrity endorsement for the Harris campaign came from Taylor Swift, who released a statement in support of Harris shortly after the first presidential debate between Harris and Donald Trump. Swift noted that Harris “fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Hillary Clinton recently gave an interview in which she spoke in support of celebrity endorsements during the election as fanbases need to be motivated to vote. Clinton said that Swift specifically “brings an unusual impact to an endorsement.”
“Her fanbase is so intense and incredibly influenced by her,” Clinton explained. “She’s a singer who charts the course of her life which they relate to as their own lives, but she’s also someone who stood up to a guy who groped her and stood up to get her music back from someone she thought had illegitimately had taken it from her. She has demonstrated a resilience in taking control over her own life that sends a strong message. I’m a huge admirer. I think [her endorsement] has real impact.”
This year, Billie Eilish and Finneas are voting the color of the final track on their May album, Hit Me Hard and Soft: blue. In honor of National Voter Registration Day, the sister-brother musical team endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign and urged fans to get to the polls this November to help stop what they called an “extremist” agenda from Republicans.
In a clip posted to Eilish’s social media accounts Tuesday (Sept. 17), the 22-year-old pop star and her collaborator look into the camera while addressing fans directly. “We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy,” the “Bad Guy” singer says.
“We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future,” Finneas continues. “The only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris.”
The pair also shared a link where fans can check their registration status ahead of election day on Nov. 5. “Vote like your life depends on it,” Eilish adds in the clip. “Because it does.”
Billie Eilish and Finneas have endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for the 2024 presidential election. The Oscar-Award-winning musicians and siblings posted a reel to Instagram on Tuesday — National Voter Registration Day —urging their followers to register to vote and stating their reasons for backing the Harris-Walz ticket.
“We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy,” Eilish says in the clip. “Vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”
Eilish has been vocally against Donald Trump’s campaign and presidency since she was legally able to vote. In 2020, at age 18, Eilish was the youngest musician to perform at the Democratic National Convention, where she spoke out adamantly against the danger she believed Trump posed to the nation.
“You don’t need me to tell you things are a mess — Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about. We need leaders who will solve problems like climate change and Covid — not deny them. Leaders who will fight against systemic racism and inequality,” she said, before performing her song “My Future.” “And that starts by voting for someone who understands how much is at stake; someone who is building a team that shares our values.”
Eilish and Finneas Join Growing List of Celebrity Endorsers
The endorsement from the multiple Grammy- and Oscar-winning duo comes a week after Taylor Swift endorsed Harris. Her highly anticipated announcement, coming after the presidential debate between Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump, led to nearly 400,000 visits to the vote.gov website, the government website she highlighted where U.S. citizens can register to vote and check their registration status.
Beyoncé previously gave Harris permission to use her 2016 song “Freedom” as the candidate’s campaign anthem. And Megan Thee Stallion, Bon Iver, Barbra Streisand and John Legend have all expressed their support for the Harris-Walz ticket. Additionally, Pink, The Chicks, Lil Jon and DJ Cassidy all showed up at the 2024 DNC.
With their endorsement, the two-time Oscar winners join a long list of A-list musicians championing the Harris-Walz cause this year. Megan Thee Stallion, Ariana Grande, John Legend, Lizzo, Quavo, Lil Jon, Bon Iver, Barbra Streisand, Katy Perry and many more have all previously lent their support to the VP, while Taylor Swift finally broke her silence on the election Sept. 10 by sharing her highly anticipated endorsement of Harris just moments after the presidential debate concluded.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” the “Anti-Hero” singer wrote in a message signed “Childless Cat Lady.” “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Celebrities Are Urging Fans to Vote
Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish told her fans to “vote like your life depends on it” this November. In a social media post, she and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, urged their followers to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.
“We are voting for Harris-Walz. The choice is clear,” Eilish wrote in the post, which the star shared Tuesday in spirit of National Voter Registration Day.
Eilish, 22, included a video in the post, with Eilish and Finneas encouraging their followers to check their voting status and vote early. They also disclosed the candidates they are casting their votes for on Nov. 5.
Finneas, 27, who writes and produces music for multiple artists, including his sister, agreed.
The two are the latest celebrities to endorse Harris and Walz, with Taylor Swift among one of the first to show support for the Democratic running mates.
Shortly after Harris and former President Donald Trump wrapped up a televised debate Sept. 10, Swift took to Instagram to share her feelings about who she plans to vote for.
She also said she decided to “be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter” after fake AI-generated images surfaced that falsely showed her endorsing Trump. The former president shared the images on Truth Social, his social media platform.
“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote in her endorsement.
The 34-year-old pop star ended the post, which featured a photo of her holding her cat, by writing: “I’m voting for Kamala Harris. Childless Cat Lady.”
Her words were a reference to Trump’s running mate Ohio Sen. JD Vance, who in 2021 described certain Democrats and their supporters as “childless cat ladies.”
Vance recently appeared on The Megyn Kelly Show, which airs on SiriusXM, and defended the comment. He also urged the public to look a little deeper at his words.
“This is not about criticizing people, who for various reasons, didn't have kids,” Vance told Kelly. “This is about criticizing the Democratic party for becoming anti-family and anti-child. We have to ask ourselves, Megyn, why do we have masking of toddlers years after the pandemic ended? Why do we have the Harris campaign coming out this very morning, Megyn, and saying that we should not have the child tax credit, which lowers tax rates for parents of young children? It’s because they have become anti-family and anti-kid and I’m proud to stand up for parents and I hope that parents out there recognize that I’m a guy that wants to fight for you.”
Harris’ campaign appears to be making the most of Swift’s endorsement, as the Democratic National Committee last week unveiled new Swift-inspired billboards in two U.S. states, including New York and Nevada.
The digital billboards popped up Friday in Times Square in NYC, as well as along the Las Vegas Strip.
One advertisement includes a photo of Harris and the words, “We’re in our Kamala era,” a reference to Swift’s Eras Tour.
Another ad shows a different image of Harris, along with the words, “A new way forward... Ready for It?” This one is a nod to her hit song, “Ready for It,” which was on Swift’s Reputation album from 2017.
According to People, the New York City ads were erected 22 stories above the red steps in Times Square, with apparent references to two of Swift’s hit songs “22” and “Red” from her 2012 album, Red.
The End of An Era?
Eilish has long used her voice to speak out about political issues she’s passionate about, most notably sustainability. She’s also encouraged fans to hit the polls on numerous occasions, creating her own voting initiative in 2020 and partnering with HeadCount ahead of the 2022 midterms.
In 2020, the “Lunch” artist performed and slammed Trump in a speech at the Democratic National Convention. Two years later, she and her family paid President Joe Biden a visit at the White House.
Eilish and Finneas are the latest in a growing list of celebrities to endorse Harris. From Beyoncé’s “Freedom” anthem to Taylor Swift’s call for calm and a new way forward, it seems that celebrities are using their platforms to encourage fans to vote and to make their voices heard.
The 2024 presidential election is sure to be a close race, and the endorsements from these celebrities could be a major factor in the outcome. With millions of followers, Eilish and Finneas have a huge platform and their support could sway many undecided voters.
Only time will tell if these endorsements will be enough to push Harris to victory, but they’re certainly not hurting her chances. With the election drawing near, it’s more important than ever for people to get out and vote. As Eilish and Finneas say, “Vote like your life depends upon it, because it does.”
