Emergency services recovered the body of a man from the water in Cork Harbour on Friday morning. Gardaí and the Coast Guard were alerted to an incident in the County Cork village of Crosshaven just before 9.45am this morning. The alarm was raised after a member of the public saw a body in the water near Carrigaline Road.
The body of a man was subsequently recovered from the water near the yacht club, close to the Crosshaven Coast Guard Station at Knocknagore. The man was then taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Investigation Underway
Gardaí have begun enquiries into the incident following the recovery of the body. A Garda spokeswoman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí and the Coast Guard responded to an incident in Crosshaven, County Cork on Friday morning, 6 September.
"The body of a male was recovered from the water and taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Enquiries are ongoing."
A spokesperson from the Irish Coast Guard told CorkBeo: "This morning at approximately 9.44 am, the Irish Coast Guard at MRSC Valentia was alerted by a member of the public that a body was sighted in the water near Crosshaven, Cork.
"Crosshaven Coast Guard Unit was tasked to the scene to assist in recovering the body from the water. The casualty was subsequently transferred to An Garda Siochána."
The Coast Guard also extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The body has since been taken to Cork University Hospital where an autopsy is set to take place.
"Enquiries are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
