Colchester Aims to Revive League Two Hopes with Tovide Boost
Striker Samson Tovide is eager to make an impact for Colchester United as the team battles relegation. Despite being sidelined with an ankle injury and undergoing surgery, Tovide has returned to the squad and is set to play a crucial role in their fight against relegation.
His return comes at a pivotal time for Colchester, who are currently third from bottom in League Two and only three points clear of the relegation zone. The team has won only one of their last 10 games, but Tovide's presence brings renewed hope to the squad.
Danny Cowley, Colchester United's Head Coach
“There are 10 big games coming up and it's all about everyone giving their all. We're ready for the fight – it's going to be quite tough but we've got a good group,” Cowley said.
Tovide's determination to contribute to Colchester's success is evident. Despite his injury lay-off, he remained positive and focused on regaining full fitness. He credits the support system around him and the new management team for their backing during his recovery.
Injury and Return
“It's been a long time, 100 and something days, three months,” Tovide said. “It was a good game to come into, a cup final - I knew it was going to be intense so I was just trying to give as much as I could for 45 minutes, try to get a goal and work hard for the team.”
In the past, Tovide has displayed his goal-scoring prowess, netting five goals in 21 appearances for Colchester. However, the team has faced a change in head coach, with Danny Cowley and his assistant brother Nicky replacing Matthew Etherington.
Tovide on the New Management
“Tuesday was the first time they've properly seen me play. I know how good I can be,” Tovide told BBC Essex.
Colchester faces a daunting task on Saturday when they travel to Mansfield Town, the current leaders of League Two. Yet, Tovide's unwavering belief in his team's abilities is unwavering. He is confident in their ability to compete and fight for every point.
Tovide's Confidence
“Mansfield are top of the league but we fear no one. It's going to be an intense game but that's what it's all about,” Tovide said.
With 10 crucial games remaining in their League Two campaign, Colchester United is determined to maintain their status in the league. Tovide's return to the squad brings a much-needed boost to their attacking prowess, and the team is ready to give their all in every remaining match.
