One young Cork man's passionate homage to slurry was the standout moment at this year's National Ploughing Championships after a candid interview went viral online. Eoin Lynch from Mitchelstown was stopped by Agriland for a quick interview for their TikTok account - his gas comments were an instant hit with social media users and the clip has already racked up over three million views in just a short few days.
When asked by the interviewer if he had any particular interests at the ploughing this year, it was a no brainer for Eoin who instantly replied "slurry."
He then went on to explain his deep devotion to slurry in a hilarious way that connected with social media users far beyond Ireland who shared the clip far and wide.
The ploughing championships are well known all over Ireland and even people with no background in farming will have a fair idea about what the young Cork man was talking about - but when a video goes this viral, it naturally reaches an audience who have absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
One user in the comments section had to go and find out for himself what slurry actually is, saying: "From what I can figure out Slurry is a mix of manure and water to fertilize pasture. I think that's right." He's clearly never have to do a set of washing again after leaving clothes out on the line when slurry was being spread.
Another user wrote: "No idea how I’ve ended up on Irish plough TikTok but I’m not mad about it".
In a follow up interview on their TikTok page, Eoin told Agriland that he didn't know the clip had gone viral until he got home from school and saw the video racking up millions of views and countless likes and comments.
He quickly had to make his way back up to Laois to spend another day at the ploughing and to enjoy his newfound internet fame.
The Slurry Sensation
Eoin Lynch from Mitchelstown, a young Co Cork native, became an internet sensation with his hilarious tribute to slurry at this year's National Ploughing Championships, which sent the online world into a frenzy after his interview clip went viral. The young man was interviewed by Agriland on their TikTok account and his amusing remarks about slurry captured the attention of social media enthusiasts, propelling the video to over three million views in a matter of days.
When quizzed by the interviewer about his interests at the ploughing event, Eoin immediately expressed his deep enthusiasm for "slurry." His comical expression of adoration for slurry resonated with viewers well beyond Ireland's shores, leading to widespread sharing of the clip.
Though the National Ploughing Championships are renowned throughout Ireland, and even those without a farming background may grasp what Eoin was referencing, his newfound viral fame has reached a global audience who might be puzzled by his unique interest.
One intrigued commenter admitted to diving into a bit of research, posting: "From what I can figure out Slurry is a mix of manure and water to fertilize pasture. I think that's right."
It appears he's never had the misfortune of hanging out his washing only to have it ruined by the nearby spreading of slurry.
Another individual expressed their surprise at finding themselves immersed in agricultural content, writing: "No idea how I've ended up on Irish plough TikTok but I'm not mad about it".
During an exclusive chat with Agriland on their TikTok account, Eoin shared that he was oblivious to his video's viral status until he returned from school and noticed it amassing millions of views, along with an avalanche of likes and comments.
He found himself quickly heading back to Co Laois for another day of ploughing fun and to soak in his sudden burst of online fame.
Slurry Talk Takes the World by Storm
Eoin Lynch from Co Cork has become an overnight sensation after being interviewed by Irish outlet Agriland at the 2024 Ploughing Championships, an agricultural show, in Co Laois this week. Eoin was featured in an Agriland TikTok on Wednesday, September 18 and his love of slurry - as well as his classic Cork accent - is getting plenty of admiration.
After remarking on the "savage heat" that was hanging over the Ploughing Championships, Eoin told Agriland what he was most interested in at the annual event.
"Slurry," he said. "Jaysus, I love the slurry here."
(Slurry, for the unfamiliar, is a mixture of animal waste and water that farmers use to make fertilizer.)
"Lot of slurry," Eoin continued. "I just think about slurry, I eat slurry, and I dream about slurry. That’s my motto now."
Agriland found itself with a viral video on its hands thanks to Eoin. Since being posted, the clip has racked up a staggering 2.8 million views, 167k likes, and more than 2k comments as of Friday afternoon.
"My brain is not processing this neither audibly nor visually," one person - presumably not Irish - commented.
"I want someone to talk about me the way he talks about slurry," another wrote.
"No idea how I’ve ended up on Irish plough TikTok but I’m not mad about it," said one person.
"I watched 10 times yesterday and came back today to watch it again. Cork accent is just superb and the lad has alot of vibe."
On Friday, Agriland caught up with Eoin again at the Ploughing Championships after his newfound viral fame. Eoin explained that he and his pals were walking around the Ploughing Championships on Wednesday and were getting ready to go home when he spotted Agriland conducting interviews and decided to "chance his arm."
He said: "I suppose it went from there anyway.
"I was in school yesterday, I'd say I was just after eating my lunch, and the boys said 'You're up on AgriLnad! You're up on Agriland!'
"And I say, 'Oh right, I must be famous so.'"
He said his pals were "taking the mick" out of him after the clip was posted.
"When I went home then, I just opened up the phone and it was boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, message upon message, like upon like. It was unbelievable."
When asked if he got any business deals, Eoin replied with a big smile: "Plenty, plenty, plenty."
