Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf has had plenty of success vs. the Lions in the last three years: at least six catches in each matchup, nearly 100 yards per game and three touchdowns in the teams’ 2021 game. He and the Seahawks have gone 3-0 vs. Detroit in those matchups.

But with a new-look Lions secondary this year, Metcalf knows the challenge will be different in 2024.

“They are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball,” Metcalf said.

In previewing the Seahawks-Lions Monday night matchup, Metcalf went one-by-one through the defensive backs he’ll be matched up against.

Rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold may be the Lions’ lowest-graded defensive back as he adjusts to the NFL, but Metcalf said he still possesses plenty of skill.

“He’s a very good player,” Metcalf said. “I know he’s been targeted quite a bit these first few weeks but I think he’s a great player.”

Metcalf also called Detroit’s other corner, Carlton Davis III, a “great player” who he knows well from when they played against one another in the SEC.

He called Kerby Joseph a “very smart post safety”, but saved his highest praise for second-year safety Brian Branch.

“He’s probably their best DB out there that’s interchangeable from nickel to safety,” Metcalf said. “He can do it all, he can run, he can hit, he can cover. It’s going to be a big challenge for us this week.”

The Ford Field Environment

The last two Lions-Seahawks games have both been in Ford Field, including last season as the Lions were beginning their drive to the playoffs. Asked about the Ford Field environment, Metcalf said he’d rank it in the top three in the NFL along with Philadelphia and San Francisco.

“Just a fun environment to play in,” Metcalf said. “Dark-looking stadium, but it’s going to be fun on Monday night.”

Metcalf’s Pre-Game Thoughts

Metcalf’s insights into the Lions’ defensive scheme highlight the respect he has for their talent and preparation.

Metcalf acknowledges that the Lions are a difficult opponent with a “tough playing style,” but he also expresses confidence in the Seahawks’ ability to overcome the challenge. He emphasizes the importance of team unity and resilience in the face of adversity.

Seahawks Ready for the Challenge

Metcalf’s pre-game analysis underscores the competitive nature of the Seahawks-Lions rivalry. The Seahawks are aware of the Lions’ defensive strengths and are prepared to face the challenge. Metcalf’s comments also reflect the Seahawks’ overall confidence in their own abilities and their commitment to winning.

A Monday Night Showdown

The upcoming matchup between the Seahawks and Lions is a highly anticipated one, with both teams looking to make a statement. Metcalf’s pre-game analysis adds a layer of intrigue to the game, highlighting the individual matchups that will be key to determining the outcome.

The game will be a test for both teams, but the Seahawks are confident they can come out on top. Metcalf’s comments provide a glimpse into the intensity and anticipation surrounding this Monday Night Football showdown.
