A number of Fair City stars have paid tribute online as acclaimed writer Ken Harmon passed away ‘unexpectedly’ this week.
Mr Harmon died ‘suddenly and unexpectedly’ on Monday, September 30.
In a career which saw him work as a screenwriter, playwright, producer and actor, Mr Harmon created the 2006 RTÉ series Legend, which told the story of three very different Irish families struggling to find their place amid the harsh realities of modern Ireland.
With his theatre work frequently staged at the Abbey Theatre, Mr Harmon began working as one of Fair City’s chief storyline writers later in his career.
Mr Harmon’s RIP.ie death notice reads: ‘Ken Harmon, passed away on the 30th of September suddenly and unexpectedly. He is sadly missed by his heartbroken family and his many friends.’
After reposing in Irwin’s Funeral Home, Bóthar Irwin, Co Galway on Friday, Mr Harmon’s cremation service will take place on Saturday, October 5, at 2pm, in Shannon Crematorium, Co Clare.
With family flowers only requested, anyone who wishes to make a donation are encouraged to do so to St. Vincent de Paul.
Leading the tributes to Mr Harmon on RIP.ie was actress Stephanie Kelly, who plays Sash Bishop on the national broadcaster’s long-running soap.
‘Rest in peace Ken. Thoughts and Prayers to all who loved you,’ she said.
Deirdre Donnelly, who plays Jacinta Boyle, wrote: ‘My deepest condolences to Ken’s family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.’
While Ruth Hegarty, who plays Nora Keogh, added: ‘So sorry to hear this sad news. My condolences to Ken’s family. May Ken rest in peace.’
