If seeing the leaves start to change on Comm Ave has got you craving homemade apple pie and itching to carve pumpkins, you’re in luck, because fall activities are in full swing in and around Boston. Enjoy all that our campus and the city have to offer this weekend, including a free coffee tasting, free fall festivals at Lawn on D and in Harvard Square, and a men’s hockey game against Holy Cross at Agganis.

Start your weekend off on the right foot with the perfect pick-me-up: a free cup of coffee. Counter Culture Coffee in Somerville hosts free coffee tastings every Friday morning as a way to share their mission (a commitment to quality, sustainability, and transparency) and get feedback on their different roasts.

Coffee Tasting

Counter Culture Coffee, located at 374 Somerville Ave. in Somerville, is offering free coffee tastings every Friday morning. This is a great opportunity to sample different roasts and learn more about the company's commitment to quality, sustainability, and transparency.

Film Showcase and Q&A

Want to see the work of the filmmaker who helped launch Oscar winners Casey and Ben Affleck? Join Jan Egleson, a College of Communication associate professor of the practice of film and television, at Cambridge’s Brattle Theatre Friday night for a film showcase and Q&A retrospective of his career. Three of his films—Billy in the Lowlands (1979), The Dark End of the Street (1981), and The Little Sister (1985)—are lauded for the way they depict the lives of working-class youth in Boston and Cambridge. Egelson also won a Special Jury Prize at the 1988 Sundance Film Festival. The night is copresented with BU’s Lights from the Byway film club.

Fall Festival at Lawn on D

Looking to get in the autumnal spirit? Head over to the Seaport’s Lawn on D for its family-friendly Fall Festival. The daylong event features glow-in-the-dark mini golf, a 360-degree photo booth, live music, and neighborhood food vendors.

Garba Night

Boston University Jains in Voice & Action group is hosting Garba Night, an evening of traditional Indian dance, music, and festive attire. This cultural celebration (which originated in the Gujarat region of India) will be led by professional dancers, though everyone is invited to join in. There will also be a live garba band and DJs. Come ready to snack—food and drink, like chole bhature, samosas, gulab jamun, and mango lassi, will be served.

Hockey Game

Show up and cheer on your BU varsity men’s hockey team at the home opener against Holy Cross. It should be a good game for the Terriers: the team was ranked second in the Hockey East Coaches Preseason Poll. For those attending in person, check out our tips for how to have the best time at Agganis. For those of you who can’t be in the stands, the game will be streaming on ESPN+.

Harvard Square Oktoberfest

The Harvard Square Oktoberfest returns for its 45th year on Sunday. Bring your friends and take a stroll through this lively historic neighborhood, and enjoy live music, street performers (including the HONK! parade), food and drinks, local vendors, and much more. For those 21-plus, there will be beer gardens hosted by local restaurants.

Weekend Roundup

This weekend in Boston offers a variety of activities for everyone. Whether you're looking for a cultural experience, a fun family event, or a chance to cheer on your favorite team, there's something for you. So get out there and enjoy the fall season!
