A restaurant in Newcastle is offering a free steak to everyone who finishes the Great North Run - and a slap-up family meal for the person who comes in last.

Argentinian eatery, Gaucho, will be presenting prizes hidden in lucky Gaucho Gold envelopes to runners as they complete the 13.1-mile race on Sunday.

A spokesman said: “Gaucho Newcastle is thrilled to announce a series of exciting initiatives to honour the runners who cross the finish line.

“As part of Gaucho’s commitment to supporting the local community and recognising the incredible efforts of the Great North Runners, Gaucho will be offering complimentary steaks to all race finishers.

From the moment the first runner crosses the finish line until September 12, Gaucho Newcastle will offer a free steak to everyone who completes the Great North Run. All they need do is present their medal.

“Gaucho Newcastle will also be honouring the perseverance of the last runner to cross the finish line with a slap-up meal and drinks for three of their friends.”

The restaurant’s team will be waiting at the finish line, recognising and rewarding runners with exclusive prizes – gifted in lucky Gaucho Gold envelopes.

These will contain everything from cocktail flights, or a selection of samples, to brunch or a £100 Gaucho voucher.

The spokesman added: “Whether you’re a participant or a supporter, doors are open to all who wish to experience the best in Argentine cuisine and share in the joy of this iconic event.”

Celebrating the Runners

Gaucho Steakhouse in Newcastle is offering free meals to “recognise the incredible efforts of the Great North Runners”. The annual half-marathon takes place on Sunday (September 8) with thousands set to pound the tarmac from Newcastle to South Shields.

The restaurant is going above and beyond to reward runners for their hard work and dedication.

Free Steak for Everyone

Gaucho has said it will offer free steak to everyone who completes the race, including the last finisher who they will invite for a slap-up meal and drinks for them and three friends. This gesture is sure to be a welcome reward for those who have put in the training and effort to participate in the Great North Run.

Additional Incentives

Staff will also give out prizes to runners at the finish line including free cocktails and vouchers. This adds an extra layer of excitement and surprise for the runners as they cross the finish line. It's a great way for Gaucho to show their support and appreciation for the runners.

A Taste of Argentina in Newcastle

The steakhouse opened in March 2023 on the corner of Market Street and Pilgrim Street in the former Virgin Money building, offering Argentinian cuts of beef from the Pampas region. The restaurant is known for its high-quality ingredients and authentic Argentinian cuisine, and is a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

A Massive Event

The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half-marathon with 60,000 participants set to take part. The event is a major highlight in the North East calendar and draws crowds from across the UK and beyond. Runners will be let off shortly before 11am, after a host of elite competitors set off. The event will be available to watch on BBC One from 10am to 2pm.

A Great Way to Celebrate

Gaucho's initiative is a great way to celebrate the Great North Run and show appreciation for the runners. It's a fantastic opportunity for those who have completed the race to enjoy a delicious meal and share their experience with friends and family. The restaurant's commitment to supporting the local community is also commendable, and it's a great example of how businesses can get involved in local events.

For those who are looking for a taste of Argentina after the race, Gaucho is the perfect place to go.
