Luke and Laura’s firstborn son, Lucky Spencer, is headed back to Port Charles. In a casting coup, Jonathan Jackson, the actor who originated the character back in 1993, stepped back into the role.

Jackson was cast as Lucky at age 10 in 1993 and remained with the soap until 1999. He returned from 2009 to 2011 and briefly reprised the role in 2015. In between his GH stints, he branched out into film and starred in the nighttime series Nashville as Avery Barkley.

Viewers didn’t actually catch a glimpse of Jackson’s face until the end of the episode, however, as Lucky spent most of the hour with a burlap sack over his head. After establishing throughout the broadcast that someone was being held captive in a dirty cell, that person was ultimately revealed to be Lucky.

Moments before the big unmasking, Laura was telling Elizabeth how much she misses her son. “I wish to God I knew where he was so I could bring him home,” she said. And just like that, there he was! So as soon as we find out where he is — and perhaps send him a comb — we’ll be sure to get him home.

Jackson originated the role of Lucky in 1993, playing the son of Luke and Laura Spencer on and off through 2011, at which point he departed ABC’s daytime soap for the primetime country music drama Nashville. He later returned to GH for a brief stint in 2015.

During his two-decade run as Lucky, Jackson won five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (1995, 1998, 1999, 2011 and 2012).

Jackson’s return began on today’s August 23rd episode and her previously teased to TV Insider, “He’s (Lucky) been away for almost a decade, so I would say that the reasons for him being away and what he’s been up to are revealed. He hasn’t just been sitting in an apartment writing his novel. He’s been up to stuff.

Lucky Returns to GH

While many have wondered just how long will Jonathan stay put, he shared that, “This is back in a substantial, real way, which I’m excited about.”  The last time viewers saw Lucky was back in 2015 for a few episodes.

Viewers are interested to see how 10 years away from Port Charles has impacted Lucky, and as Jackson teased, “He’s been up to stuff. In some ways, I would say he’s the most like Luke that he’s ever been.”

Getting the opportunity to act again with his on-scree mother, Genie Francis. Jackson expressed, “Working with Genie was a big personal incentive to come back. When I was there in 2010, 2011, Genie wasn’t on the show and I always felt like I missed out a little bit with working with her as an adult, so I’m very excited about that.

The Return of Lucky

As Lucky Spencer’s returns begins to unravel, bringing back to five-time Daytime Emmy-winner, Jonathan Jackson, there is another actor who will definitely be a part of his story.

In casting news, Sawandi Wilson is joining the cast in the role of  Isaiah, who is tied to Lucky’s story and will first air next week beginning on the August 26th episode of the ABC daytime drama series.
