The Para Equestrian Events
In contrast to the Olympics, which feature three equestrian disciplines, the Paralympic Games include only one discipline: dressage. In this event, both the rider and the horse are evaluated. According to Olympics.com, judging criteria for equestrian events include the precision and quality of the riding, artistic expression, and the horse's gait and stops.
The History of Para Dressage
Para dressage, which started as a recreational activity, first saw competitive events in the 1970s. It was officially included in the Paralympic Games beginning with the Atlanta Games in 1996.
