The door of a home was set on fire, gunshots were fired and windows smashed during an attack on a home in Liverpool. It happened just before midnight in Helena Street, Walton, Merseyside Police said. Witnesses reported hearing loud bangs outside the house and officers later found evidence of gunfire at the scene. Firefighters tackled the blaze as police began a search for two males who fled the area. Nobody was injured.

Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway following the shooting. Detective Chief Inspector Gary Stratton said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation into this incident and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at around midnight onwards and witnessed the incident to contact police.“Firing a gun in a residential street is extremely reckless and dangerous. Thankfully nobody was injured but this could have led to more tragic circumstances.“Please check your CCTV, dashcam devices or doorbell footage and if you see anything or anyone suspicious please let us know. Any information you provide, however, insignificant it may seem, could be vital to our investigation.”

Police Response

Police were called to Helena Street in Walton at around 11.55pm last night, Saturday September 7. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of shots being fired while firefighters tackled the blaze. Residents reported hearing loud bangs on the street and two males were seen making off from the area. Helena Street is currently closed and a cordon is in place. Forensics officers and detectives could be seen surveying the scene this morning as the investigation begins.
