A performance of Hamilton at the Bord Gáis Theatre in Dublin has been cancelled on short notice, just an hour and a half before the show was due to start. The cancellation is due to the cast of the show being ill.

The theatre took to social media to break the news about the award winning show saying, "We regret to inform customers that tonight's performance of Hamilton, scheduled for Tuesday, 01 October at 7:30 pm, has been cancelled due to cast illness."

Disappointed customers will "receive an automatic refund" for the performance, with concerned fans hoping all is well for upcoming scheduled shows.

The Bord Gáis Theatre went on to try and reassure customers that they will try find an alternate performance for those missing out

"We understand the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause, and we want to assure you that every effort was made to proceed with the performance as planned. Unfortunately, this situation is unavoidable, and the decision to cancel has been made with great difficulty.

"We sincerely apologise and we thank our customers for their patience as we try to resolve all queries.

"We will endeavour to find an alternative performance that we can add to the performance schedule before the end of the run, and should we be able to do so we will inform you as soon as possible to allow for priority booking."

The theatre also said that they are working towards finding an alternative performance to make up for tonight's cancellation.

"All bookers will be contacted directly via Ticketmaster or their alternative point of purchase."

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with one person writing: "I’ve been looking forward to seeing this show for over a year now and to find out it’s been cancelled as I was sat outside the theatre waiting for doors to open was incredibly disappointing."

Another said: "I know these things sometimes are unavoidable, but this close to showtime is ridiculous. We drove up from Cork and didn’t get the notification until we’d landed in Dublin. Surely ye must have known earlier in the day?"

A third person added: "An hour and twenty before curtains up is just simply not good enough sorry."

Hamilton is two weeks into a nine-week run at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, with shows occurring regularly between September 17 and November 16, 2024.
