Hannaford Supermarkets is voluntarily and temporarily removing select fresh salads and pasta meals from its stores following notification from its manufacturer of the potential for listeria contamination. The products were available for sale from Sept. 23 through Oct. 1. The supermarket chain stated there have been no reports of illness or injury.

Products Recalled

The products recalled include:

  • Fiesta Salad with Chicken
  • Cobb Salad with Chicken and Bacon
  • Caesar Salad with Chicken
  • Caesar Salad with Chicken and Bacon
  • BLT Salad with Chicken
  • Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken
  • Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken Family Meal

The company has provided a complete list of the recalled products along with their UPC codes on its website. Customers can also visit their local Hannaford store for a full refund.

What is Listeria?

Listeria is a bacteria that can contaminate food and can cause illness to people who consume it, according to the USDA. Listeria thrives in cool, damp environments, often found in unpasteurized dairy products, raw meats, and soft cheeses.

Listeriosis

People who eat food contaminated with Listeria can get an illness called listeriosis, according to the USDA. Those who are most at risk for contracting listeriosis are pregnant people and their newborns, adults 65 and older, and people with compromised immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include fatigue, muscle aches, confusion, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.
