The Hughes brothers may continue to further their status as one of the most exciting current hockey families. Devils stars Jack Hughes and Luke Hughes could be joining Canucks defenseman older brother Quinn Hughes on the cover of the EA NHL 25 video game after the game’s trailer was leaked online.
EA Sports has been tight-lipped about NHL 25 for some time now. The game’s release is less than two months away, and the Madden publisher has said nothing. However, due to a mistake in uploading NHL 25‘s official reveal trailer, the video was unlisted for a lengthy period so fans could check it out. Now, while I couldn’t see the trailer, our friend Mike Starw got a few new details about the game.
EA Sports set the trailer to release on Thursday, August 22 at 11 am. However, due to the company unlisting the video instead of making it private, Mike Straw from Insider Gaming grabbed the first official details of NHL 25.
According to Mike Straw, the game will feature Jack and Quinn Hughes as its cover athletes. This is the first time in sports video game history that a set of brothers are on the cover of a triple-A sports title.
In addition, the game will feature a new in-game mechanic within ICE-Q Intelligence, which will revolutionize gameplay. The game will also feature revamped vision control and over 250 skating animations.
Lastly, according to Mike Straw, EA Sports will be using a release model similar to that of NHL 25 and EAFC 25. If fans pay $100, they can play the game on release day; however, if they spend $70, they can start playing a week later.
NHL 25 is set to have its official reveal on Thursday, August 22.
NHL 25 Cover Athletes: A First Look
The trailer contains the three brothers describing their love for hockey while doing drills wearing green screen movement technology, interwoven with new gameplay updates and features. Barring any last minute changes the Hughes brothers as the cover athletes is a strong decision by EA, all three are great players and very marketable. Additionally, having three brothers in the NHL is a great story and will make a captivating cover.
Quinn is the reigning Norris Trophy winner and captain of the Canucks while Luke was nominated for the Calder Trophy this season. Jack is an alternate captain for the Devils and one of the league's best young players.
This would be the first time that an EA Sports NHL game contains three players on the cover.
Utah Hockey Club in NHL 25
The trailer also gave a glimpse of the Utah Hockey Club, the newest expansion team in the NHL, which will be debuting in the upcoming season. The trailer featured a brief shot of the Utah Hockey Club, showcasing their logo and home arena. This will be the first ever edition of EA’s NHL video game franchise that will feature an NHL team from Utah. Fans will be able to control their new favorite players as they navigate different game modes such as Play Now, Franchise, Be A Pro, Hockey Ultimate Team and World of Chel.
