Jarvis, Guentzel Lead Hurricanes to Victory
Andrei Svechnikov won a faceoff to start the game, and the puck was quickly fed back to Jarvis who fired a shot past Varlamov.
The Hurricanes continued to control the play, outshooting the Islanders 13-4 in the first period. Jarvis struck again midway through the period, giving the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead.
The Islanders pushed back in the second period, but Antti Raanta made several key saves to keep them off the board. Guentzel scored a power-play goal late in the second period to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead.
The Islanders finally got on the board early in the third period when Brock Nelson scored a power-play goal. But Guentzel answered back with his second goal of the game just a few minutes later to restore the Hurricanes' three-goal lead.
The Hurricanes held on for the 4-1 victory, and now have a 2-0 lead in the series.
Jarvis Continues to Impress
Seth Jarvis has been one of the most impressive players for the Hurricanes this season. The 20-year-old has 10 goals and 15 assists in 44 games.
Jarvis is a dynamic player who can create scoring chances for himself and his teammates. He is also a responsible defensive player.
Guentzel Steps Up
Jake Guentzel has also been a key player for the Hurricanes this season. The 28-year-old has 20 goals and 25 assists in 43 games.
Guentzel is a skilled scorer who can put the puck in the net from anywhere on the ice. He is also a good playmaker who can set up his teammates for scoring chances.
Hurricanes Take Control of Series
The Hurricanes now have a 2-0 lead in the series and are in control. They will have a chance to close out the series at home in Game 3 on Tuesday night.
