India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 1: Play Washed Out After 35 Overs, Bangladesh 107/3

The first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur was marred by rain and bad light, with play being called off after just 35 overs. Bangladesh ended the day on 107/3, with Mominul Haque top-scoring with 40. He stayed unbeaten overnight alongside Mushfiqur Rahim, who would look to become the first Bangladesh batter to score 6,000 Test runs on Day 2.

The match was delayed by an hour due to a wet outfield as it rained heavily throughout the night prior to the match. While there was no rain for much of the day, drizzles appeared in the last over of the first session and the pitch and surrounding areas were covered once the players walked off for Lunch.

Bangladesh's Steady Start

India won the toss and chose to bowl first, but Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam provided a steady start, reaching 26 without loss in the first eight overs. However, Akash Deep struck twice in the first hour, dismissing both openers. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque then steadied the ship, putting on a 51-run stand for the third wicket before Ashwin dismissed Shanto for 31.

Rain Delays Play

The first session was disrupted by a rain shower, which lasted for about 15 minutes. However, the players returned to the field after a short delay.

Play Ends Prematurely

Just as Bangladesh seemed to be settling in, the heavens opened up again, forcing the umpires to take the players off the field with under an hour of play remaining in the second session. The rain continued to lash the ground, washing out the remainder of the day's play.

A Look at the Bowling Performance

Akash Deep was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking 2 wickets for 14 runs in 6 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin also picked up a wicket.

What's Next?

Play will begin half an hour early tomorrow, rain permitting. Bangladesh will be looking to continue their momentum from Day 1, while India will be hoping for a better start in the second innings.

A Cloudy End to the Day

With rain expected on Day 2 and Day 3, the match could be heading towards a draw. However, the players and fans alike will be hoping for some sunshine and a chance to see some exciting cricket. The fight between the bat and the ball is expected to be intense, and the outcome of this match remains uncertain.
