Janet McTeer has revealed how she sang show tunes to Jeff Goldblum to keep him focused in between takes on KAOS. The stars play Zeus and Hera, king and queen of the gods, in the eagerly awaited new Netflix series. A modern reworking of the Greek myths, it sees Zeus and the gods of Olympus trying to retain control of the human realm.

McTeer and Goldblum appeared on The One Show together on Tuesday (27 August), where they were quizzed about rumours that McTeer used to sing to the Jurassic Park actor before the director called “Action”.

“We did have a piano on our set and sometimes, as you know, he’s an amazing pianist and he would sort of tinkle off and everyone, everything would stop,” McTeer replied.

“It’s not that he got distracted, people will say, ‘Ooh well he got distracted’ - he didn’t. Jeff works incredibly hard and we are both sort of old school and very well prepared, know our lines, all of that sort of stuff but he would just get very kind of… there is always so much going on, look at all these people, and so we would just sing!”

Goldblum chimed in: “Sometimes I find you are so prepared you don’t want to in those last seconds before 'Action', you don’t want to fret about it, you want to take an adventure a little bit aways.”

Both stars then started singing, as Goldblum explained: “And that does something to you, and then… ‘Action’.”

The Wizard of Wicked

Goldblum also discussed his upcoming role in Wicked, the upcoming big screen version of the hit stage show about witches. He plays the Wizard, while chart star Ariana Grande is Glinda and Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba.

The Hollywood star admitted that he was frightened of witches in real life after a terrifying childhood dream about a witch tying him to a tree stump. “I thought she was going to cut my head off,” he said as the hosts laughed. “But she went (starting to chant) 'peaches, peaches' and I was scared about that.”

But it seems that fear vanished when it came to the film and Grande and Erivo's performances, with Goldblum saying: “Mostly I wasn't afraid, I was very moved and inspired.”

The One Show Reaction

Viewers enjoyed Goldblum's little anecdotes on The One Show sofa, with one posting on X that the star was “class”. “Jeff Goldblum is one of my most favourite people,” said someone else.

Another wrote: “Jeff Goldblum has been a legend of our screens for many years and he still looks just as good now as he did back then! Absolutely adore him.”

A Modern Take on Ancient Myths

KAOS premieres on Netflix on Thursday, 29 August. The new Netflix series gives the classic tales of gods, heroes and monsters from Greek mythology a modern twist.

A ‘Modernised Take’

“It's a modernised take on a whole bunch of different Greek myths” says the rising star of the Jeff Goldblum eight-parter The post KAOS star Misia Butler on landing role in Netflix’s new show: ‘They wrote a character I felt was quite like me!’ appeared first on Attitude.

The One Show star Vernon Kay issued a warning as Jeff Goldblum opened up about his childhood ‘fear’.

During Tuesday’s episode of the BBC hit show, Vernon and co-star Clara Amfo were joined by Jeff Goldblum and Janet McTeer as they discussed their new Netflix series Kaos on Tuesday evening (August 27).

While on the show Clara couldn’t help but ask Jeff about his other major role in the upcoming Wicked movie, where he plays The Wizard alongside Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jonathan Bailey.

Clara asked: “So you’re afraid of witches so how did that work out?” The Hollywood actor went on to open up about his hidden childhood fear.

The Jurassic Park and Independence Day star admitted: “My first dream when I was a kid. I remember a witch tied me to a tree,” Everyone burst out laughing as he insisted: “It’s true.”

Vernon turned to the camera and joked: “Guys it’s 20 past 7, brace yourselves.” Jeff jumped in: “I’ll cut it short. I thought she was going to cut my head off but she said ‘peaches, peaches’ and I was scared about that.”

Speaking about his co-stars, he continued: “On set Ariana Grande plays the good witch and her character finds her heart, meanwhile Cynthia’s character finds her powers and mostly I wasn’t afraid I was actually moved by it.”

Singing Show Tunes On Set

Elsewhere in the show, Janet, who has taken on the role of Zeus' wife Hera, revealed her secret for keeping co-star Jeff focused while filming the new dark comedy series.

Clare asked: “Is it right that you used to sing show tunes to Jeff while on set?” Janet admitted: “We had many and we did have a piano on our set and sometimes he would play and everyone would stop.”

Jeff went on to say: “I don’t know about that.” Janet continued: “Yes they did, yes they did. It’s not like he would get distracted, he didn’t.”

She went on: “Jeff is incredibly hard working and we are both very old school, we know all our lines and are very prepared but he would sort of get it. There is always so much going on with a lot of people so we would just sing.”

Jeff said: “Sometime I would find her so prepared.” The pair then started singing as they demonstrated how they get into character.
