Culture Night, a nationwide celebration of arts and culture, is taking place tonight with 16 events scattered throughout the town. One of the highlights of the evening is the ‘Our Place’ exhibition at Siamsa Tire. This multidisciplinary exhibition delves into themes of happiness, cultural expression, human rights, and belonging. It features an immersive sound artwork, vibrant neon and tactile light artworks, and distinct sensory areas that invite visitors to engage with the art on multiple levels.
Creativity Unleashed: Junk Kouture Showcase
Mercy Mounthawk is hosting a Junk Kouture Kerry Showcase in collaboration with The Arts Council, Culture Night, and Siamsa Tíre. This event, which runs from 6 pm to 8 pm, will feature stunning outfits crafted from recycled materials. Talented students from three Kerry secondary schools have poured their creativity into these designs, demonstrating the power of sustainability and artistic expression.
Harmony Through Diversity
At the Island of Geese, Munster Technological University (MTU) students are showcasing their performance skills and media work through the ‘Harmony Through Diversity’ event. Starting at 8 pm, the evening will include dance, spoken word, and musical performances encompassing a range of genres, including traditional Irish music, classical music, and pop.
Mystic Masters Launch
For a unique and introspective experience, head to Hummingbird Studio in Collis Sandes House for the Mystic Masters Launch. This interactive exhibition features the launch of artist Tricia O’Connor’s deck of Visionary Cards, a collection of 22 portraits painted during lockdown. Accompanying the portraits is a book that delves into the history and stories behind each piece. Visitors can explore the exhibition, enjoy free card readings, and gain insights into the artist’s workspace. The exhibition launch will take place from 4-7 pm, with free card readings available from 6-10 pm.
