A recall has been issued for a number of macaroni and cheese products by the FDA. Two varieties of the product have been recalled in a voluntary move initiated by the manufacturer, Reser's Fine Foods.

The recall, which is ongoing, was issued over fears that the product has been spoiled due to temperature abuse. This is as a result of malfunctioning on a refrigeration unit on a trailer.

The product recalls have received a Class II risk categorization, which the FDA defines as, "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

Recalled Macaroni and Cheese Products

These are the recalled macaroni and cheese products:

  • Reser's American Classics Macaroni & Cheese White Cheddar - 12 oz

  • Reser's American Classics

The products have the codes 71117.02009 and 71117.02123 which can be found on the bar code. They are distributed in California, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Other Recalled Products

And these are not the only products with the Class II risk warning. Product recalls were also issued for:

  • Reser's Essential Everyday Original Potato Salad – 16 oz

  • Reser's American Classics Scalloper Potatoes – 12 oz

  • Reser's American Classics Asiago Creamed Spinach – 12 oz

  • Reser's Kit HF Pudding Bannana – 4.8ibs

  • Reser's Sweet Corn with Butter – 4ibs

  • Stonemill Kitchens Green Goddess Pasta Salad – 5ibs

  • Reser's Raspberry Parfait Desserts – 8ibs

  • Gravy Homestyle – 4ibs

  • Reser's Smokehouse Potato Salas – 5ibs

  • Reser's American Classics Egg Salad – 12oz

  • Baked Scalloped Potatoes – 2.5ibs

  • Potatoes Creamy Deluxe Special Request – 5ibs

What Does This Mean for Consumers?

People are advised not to consume the products that have been recalled, and those with allergies should take precautions. It is important to check the bar code of any Reser's products you have in your refrigerator to see if they are affected by the recall. The FDA recommends that consumers throw away any recalled products or return them to the store where they were purchased.

Other Recent Recalls

According to both the FDA and the Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service, more than a dozen food products were recalled in August. These recalls included a range of products, such as desserts, spices and infant formula, the federal agencies reported. Most of the recalls were a result of undeclared allergens, with others being linked to potential bacteria or lead contamination.

This week the FDA have issued more recalls. Bags of Brazil nuts were recalled across the U.S. due to levels of mold and yeast, receiving a Class II definition. A kimchi product was also given a Class II risk definition after it was found to contain high levels of yeast growth. A number of guacamole and salsa products were issued with a Class I risk, due to fears of listeria contamination.

Taking Action

The FDA is committed to protecting public health and ensuring the safety of the food supply. The agency will continue to investigate these recalls and take appropriate action to protect consumers.
