Residents in an area of the town of Meaford are being asked to remain in their homes due to an active police investigation. 

At about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Grey Bruce OPP put out an advisory informing the public about an increased police presence in the area of Victoria Street, Ridge Road, Susan Street and St. Andrews Drive. 

Residents were being asked to remain in their homes and avoid the area until further notice. 

The investigation was in its early stages and updates would be shared as they became available, police said in the advisory posted to X. 

Police Presence and Investigation Update

Grey Bruce OPP are asking Meaford residents living around Victoria Village to remain inside as they respond to an active investigation.

OPP haven't shared details as to what has caused the increased police presence in town, only the "investigation is in its early stages."

They do ask that residents in the area of Victoria Street, Ridge Road, Susan Street and St. Andrews Drive stay inside until further notice.

Concerns and Response

A spokesperson for the police said the request is made out of an abundance of caution until they can learn more about the situation.

Official Statements and Investigation Update

Grey Bruce OPP announced on Facebook at 1:32 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, that there is an increased police presence in the area of Victoria Street, Ridge Road, Susan Street and St. Andrews Drive in Meaford.

Residents in the area are asked to remain in their residences. All others should avoid the area until further notice.

Police say an investigation is in its early stages. Updates will be shared when they become available.

The Investigation Continues

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a weapons complaint on Victoria Street in the Municipality of Meaford.  

Out of an abundance of caution there is a hold and secure and the community are asked to remain in their residences. 

The Grey Bruce OPP are trying to verify the information received. 

If anyone has any information or was in the area of Victoria Street on September 1, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m. and saw or heard anything, please call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
