Nick Grimshaw was targeted by a masked gang of thieves in Ibiza who ransacked his luxury apartment. The former Radio 1 DJ had rented the villa to celebrate his 40th birthday with his family.
It is believed the raid was targeted, following a spate of high level robberies on the White Isle. Previous attacks, believed to have been by the same gang, have seen a number of luxury villas targeted by pumping sedative gas into the property before the criminals break in wearing hazmat suits.
It’s understood that while shaken, Nick and his friends and family were not hurt. A source said: “The raid has been reported to police and luckily it was captured on the villa’s CCTV. Hopefully Spanish authorities can catch those who did it.
“There have been a spate of attacks in luxury villas across Ibiza this summer. Sadly Nick’s villa was on the target list - simply due it being known for being used by high net worth clients. The gang would have had no idea who he was. Sadly it’s a case of the wrong place at the wrong time but it’s scary to say the least.
“Nick was obviously upset but thought best to keep things off social media. At the end of the day it was meant to be a private low key break with his family.
The source added: “When the raid happened Grimmy, his mum and his friends were in the villa. Luckily they were asleep but it was unsettling to wake up to say the least.”
The Sun understands Nick is now safely back at his home in London with dancer Mesh.
Taking to Instagram last week in a now deleted post, Nick could be seen beaming away as he sunbathed outside his villa. He captioned the snap: “Waking up 40”.
The star lives in north London with Mesh and they recently renovated their home. Fans have previously been given a glimpse of their home on Channel 4's Celebrity Gogglebox.
A Spate of Robberies
The robbery of Nick Grimshaw's villa is just the latest in a string of similar incidents targeting luxury villas across Ibiza this summer. The gang responsible is believed to be targeting properties frequented by wealthy tourists, often using sedative gas to subdue occupants before breaking in and stealing valuables.
The Aftermath
While Grimshaw and his family were unharmed, the incident has left them shaken and the experience has undoubtedly marred what should have been a celebratory birthday trip.
Grimshaw has chosen to stay silent on the matter, opting to keep the details of the robbery private. He has also removed any evidence of his trip to the Spanish island from social media.
However, the news of the robbery has sparked concern about the safety of wealthy tourists on the island. The authorities are working to track down the gang responsible and bring them to justice.
A Disturbing Trend
The use of sedative gas in robberies is a growing concern in Ibiza and other popular tourist destinations. These gangs are targeting affluent properties, taking advantage of unsuspecting victims who may not be aware of the threat.
The authorities are working to increase security measures and deter these criminals, but it is crucial for tourists to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves and their belongings.
A Spoiled Celebration
Grimshaw's 40th birthday trip has been overshadowed by this distressing incident. The robbery has not only caused a financial loss but has also left a lasting sense of unease and fear.
Despite the unfortunate event, Grimshaw and his family are safe and sound back home. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of personal security, even in seemingly idyllic destinations. It also highlights the need for authorities to take a firm stance against these criminal gangs and ensure the safety of tourists in Ibiza and beyond.
