The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that its fighter jets have neutralized five key terrorist commanders and 35 fighters in a series of coordinated airstrikes in Borno State. The airstrikes, part of Operation Hadin Kai, took place in the Arina area, located at the Southern Tumbuns of the state, on August 16, 2024.

The NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, disclosed the names of the slain commanders as Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla (Dan Hausawan Jubillaram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, and Bakoura Arina Chiki.

Gabkwet explained that the operation was carried out after intelligence revealed the clandestine migration of terrorists into the Arina area from neighboring locations. Following this intelligence, confirmatory surveillance and reconnaissance missions were conducted on August 12 and 15, 2024, identifying numerous terrorists and active structures concealed under trees.

Consequently, coordinated airstrikes were launched, successfully engaging the targets and resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures. Battle Damage Assessment after the strikes revealed that several pieces of equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary were obliterated by the strikes.

Operation Hadin Kai: A Strategic Effort to Weaken Terrorists

The NAF spokesperson emphasized the decisive nature of the operation, stating that it was aimed at further weakening the activities of the remnants of terrorists operating in the Northeast, while also protecting innocent civilians and troops. The airstrikes were part of a larger strategic effort to curb terrorist activities in the region.

Intelligence Gathering and Targeted Strikes

Gabkwet highlighted the critical role of intelligence gathering in the successful execution of the operation. He stated that intelligence had revealed the clandestine migration of terrorists into the Arina area and that confirmatory surveillance and reconnaissance missions had identified numerous terrorists and active structures concealed under trees. The NAF then launched coordinated airstrikes targeting these identified locations.

The Impact of the Airstrikes

The impact of the airstrikes was significant, leading to the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures. Battle damage assessments revealed that several pieces of equipment, vehicles, water vessels, and a suspected medical dispensary were destroyed by the strikes. This operation has undoubtedly degraded the operational capacity of the few remaining terrorists in the region.

The NAF's Commitment to Peace and Security

The NAF reiterated its commitment to supporting the efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies in safeguarding the region and ensuring peace and security prevail. The airstrikes demonstrate the NAF's proactive approach to combating terrorism and its dedication to restoring stability in the Northeast region of Nigeria.

A Devastating Blow to Boko Haram

The successful targeting and neutralization of key terrorist commanders and foot soldiers during the airstrikes mark a significant blow to Boko Haram's leadership and infrastructure. The destruction of their logistics base, including vehicles, water vessels, and a medical dispensary, will further hinder their ability to operate effectively. The NAF's commitment to utilizing intelligence gathering and coordinated airstrikes to target terrorist cells is a promising strategy for disrupting their operations and ultimately restoring peace and stability to the region.

Beyond Borno State: A Nation-Wide Fight Against Insecurity

The fight against insecurity is not limited to Borno State. Across Nigeria, there are ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities. These efforts often involve a combination of military operations, community policing, and social programs aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity. The government and security agencies are constantly seeking to improve their strategies and capabilities to effectively combat these challenges and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

A Call for Unity and Collaboration

The fight against insecurity requires a unified and collaborative effort from all Nigerians. This includes supporting the efforts of the security agencies, reporting suspicious activities, and engaging in community-based initiatives to prevent crime and promote peace. The success of these efforts depends on the active participation and cooperation of all citizens. Only through collective action can Nigeria overcome the challenges of insecurity and build a safer and more prosperous future for all.
