The winner of Tuesday night's $70 million Lotto Max jackpot bought their ticket in the Timiskaming-Cochrane area of northeastern Ontario, lottery officials say. This is the fifth Lotto Max jackpot won in Ontario since April.
The winning numbers for Tuesday’s draw were: 02, 11, 12, 21, 24, 38, 39 + 33 Bonus.
Provincial lottery officials said that since April, there have been four Lotto Max jackpot wins in Ontario, marking Tuesday’s win the fifth straight jackpot won in the province.
“We also have several new millionaires, who are holding winning Maxmillions tickets plus we had some big Encore winners as well!”
Half of the 14 Maxmillions winners from the Aug. 20 draw are from Ontario.
Tickets sold in Peterborough, Ottawa, Mississauga, Toronto and online won $1 million prizes.
Encore ticket add-ons sold in Unionville, Kingston and Ottawa won prizes ranging from $100,000 to $1 million.
To claim the prize, the winner has to answer a series of questions about the purchase to prove they are the one who bought the ticket.
“While OLG knows everything about that ticket, we have to wait for the person or persons holding the ticket to come forward and go through our routine prize claim review process to determine that they are the rightful owner of the ticket,” OLG spokesperson Tony Bitonti told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email Wednesday morning.
One of the many questions that is asked is if the numbers were selected or generated at random.
How to Claim Your Prize
The OLG's website provides a comprehensive guide on how to claim your prize, outlining the necessary steps and documentation required. The process typically involves verifying the identity of the ticket holder and confirming the legitimacy of the ticket.
Who Can Claim the Prize
Only the rightful owner of the winning ticket can claim the prize. This is usually the person who purchased the ticket, but it could also be someone who was gifted the ticket.
Other Lottery Winners
In addition to the $70 million jackpot winner, there were numerous other lucky winners in the Aug. 20 draw. These included 14 Maxmillions winners, with seven of them being from Ontario. One million dollar tickets were won in Peterborough, Ottawa, Mississauga and Toronto, along with two tickets purchased online via OLG.ca. Notably, another Maxmillions ticket worth $333,333.40 was sold in Toronto and shared with two other tickets sold in Western Canada.
There were also three Encore tickets valued at $1 million each sold in Unionville, Kingston and Ottawa.

The next Lotto Max draw will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, with a $40 million jackpot up for grabs. The OLG encourages individuals who purchased tickets for the Aug. 20 draw to check their numbers and see if they are among the lucky winners.
