Liam Gallagher, one half of the warring brothers at the centre of one of the UK’s most successful ever bands, appears to have confirmed the spinning rumours of an Oasis reunion next summer.

Following reports in the UK press of a thaw in relations between Liam and Noel Gallagher and an estimated 20 gigs in two cities next year, Liam posted on X: “See you down the front.”

The Times newspaper reports that industry insiders are convinced the band will reform, with today’s reports coming 15 years after they played their last gig at the V Festival in the UK in 2009.

Reports are that the Wonderwall and Live Forever hitmakers will play Heaton Park in Manchester and Wembley Stadium in London, with whispers of a Glastonbury headliner slot to boot.

Oasis, including frontman Liam and guitarist-songwriter Noel, formed in 1991, and took the UK charts by storm in the late 1990s, during which they spearheaded the era of “Britpop” when homegrown bands dominated the charts. Their first album Definitely Maybe became the fastest selling ever debut album, and their second album 1995 (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? secured their status as the UK’s biggest rock stars. 30 years later and their popularity remains undimmed with 21million listers on Spotify.

The brothers’ always tumultuous relationship came to a head in 2009, when they had a physical fight before a concert in Paris, and Noel quit the band. They have not performed together since, but Liam just finished a tour with his band, during which he performed Definitely Maybe to a rapturous reception. He has always apparently been the keener of the two to reunite on stage, but Noel appears to have belatedly agreed, with speculation that his expensive divorce last year contributing to his thought process. Whatever the reason behind the reunion, if and when the rumours are confirmed, Oasis back together on stage is expected to be the event of the summer. Taylor Swift may have owned 2024, but it will be Britpop take two for 2025.

The Reunion is Actually Happening?

Industry insiders are adamant next summer will be the return of the biggest band in Brit-pop, telling the Sunday Times Wembley Stadium is booked for 10 nights, smashing Taylor Swift's eight-gig record set earlier this month.

Liam Gallagher has been responding to fans as they plead with him to confirm the rumours

'I never did like that word FORMER'

Liam Gallagher appears to have teased the date of a major announcement regarding the future of Oasis.

Rumours have been swirling in recent days about the possibility of an Oasis reunion announcement being imminent, and now a comment from Liam on social media has added more fuel to the fire.

Early on Sunday morning (August 25), the singer responded to a post on X that asked, ‘Liam reunion dates when?’

Liam’s answer appeared was potentially very revealing: “Nxt Friday,” he wrote.

However, in another reply to a fan asking, “You’re getting everyones hopes up with all your wind ups about reunion, just say it aint happening”, Liam said, “Your winding yourselfs up I’ve said NOTHING”.

Whether next Friday (August 30) will reveal Oasis reunion dates is not entirely clear. But the timing – and countless fan tweets leveled at him – definitely makes his answer tantalizing for diehards. In another tweet today, Liam adds another vague tweet to the discourse: “I never did like that word FORMER”.

In response to a fan asking the meaning of his tweet, he responds: “You tell me man”.

All this comes just a day after The Times reported that Oasis may be preparing to play a string of 10 shows at Wembley Stadium in the summer of 2025, as well as a major hometown show in Heaton Park, Manchester.

Oasis are also rumoured to be potential headliners for next year’s edition of Glastonbury Festival. If true, the set would come 30 years after the release of their seminal 1995 LP ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’.

The rumours have grown more after Liam teased an “interesting situation” in regards to rumours of an Oasis reunion at his Leeds Festival performance.

During his main stage performance on Friday night (August 23), Liam played ‘Half The World Away’, and in introducing the song, he said: “It is very interesting init? It is a very interesting situation we’ve found ourselves in.”

That song was originally sung by Noel, and at a show in Sheffield earlier this year, Liam even dedicated the song to his brother.

The Noel Gallagher Factor

Noel too appears to have been softening his tone towards Liam and his former band in general in recent weeks. In an interview to mark the 30th anniversary of ‘Definitely Maybe’, the guitarist was full of praise for his brother’s talents.

“I can’t sing ‘Slide Away’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ and ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ and ‘Columbia’ and all that,” he said. “I mean I can do it but it’s not the same. It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude. I don’t have the same attitude as him.”

He went on to liken their respective voices to drinks: “Liam’s is a shot of tequila, right, and mine’s half a Guinness,” he said. “Mine’s half a Guinness on a Tuesday. It’s alright. Liam’s is ten shots of tequila on a fucking Friday night.”

Noel also seemed to praise his brother’s current work, saying: “What he did was inspire the kids at the front to do something, do you know what I mean? ‘If he can do it I can do it’. And he’s still doing that now.”

Will They or Won’t They?

Speculation about an Oasis reunion has been rampant for some time, with Liam saying earlier this year that Noel was “still playing hard to get”, and also claiming that he would send his brother a box of chocolates as an apology for being “really mean” to him around the time of Oasis’ split in 2009.

There were reports that dates had been booked for an Oasis reunion at Wembley Stadium this summer, but that never materialised.

Noel has discussed the possibility of an Oasis comeback in an interview with NME, adding that the reason why it hasn’t happened yet was because there had “never really been a serious offer about ‘The Big O’ getting back together”.

Gene Gallagher – Noel’s nephew and Liam Gallagher’s son – previously weighed in on the Oasis debate, and explained in a new interview that his dad wants the reunion to come to fruition.

Oasis’ final show took place at V Festival in 2009.

A Britpop Reunion To Rule Them All

With next Friday’s date looming large, will we finally get a formal Oasis reunion announcement? Only time will tell if the Britpop giants will be reunited once more. If they do, it’ll be a long-awaited return for the fans, and one that could truly redefine the summer of 2025.
