Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced a new venture, revealing that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with Heiwa Real Estate Co. Ltd. to introduce a Park Hyatt hotel in Sapporo, Japan. This upcoming addition, scheduled to open in 2029, will be strategically located in the heart of the Hokkaido Prefecture, an area known for its economic and cultural significance. The Park Hyatt Sapporo will be the fourth Park Hyatt-branded property in Japan, complementing the prestigious Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono, a luxury retreat set within one of Hokkaido’s premier ski resorts.

The new hotel will occupy a prime position within a mixed-use tower currently under development at the intersection of Odori Park and Sapporo Ekimae-dori, the city’s main commercial and business corridor. The hotel, spanning from the 27th to the 35th floors, will offer breathtaking views of both the park and the cityscape. Designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma, the building will reflect a harmonious blend of modern architecture and natural elements. The Park Hyatt Sapporo will feature 157 opulent rooms and suites, alongside world-class dining, wellness amenities, an indoor swimming pool, and versatile spaces for meetings and events.

Hokkaido's Appeal for Travelers

Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, has become a major draw for tourists year-round, known for its unspoiled wilderness, excellent skiing conditions, and rich culinary offerings. The region now leads Japan in both inbound overnight stays and tourism spending outside of the nation’s three major metropolitan areas, according to the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Sapporo, the island’s capital, is a vibrant city accessible via a 90-minute flight from Tokyo and will soon be connected by high-speed rail when the Bullet Train reaches the city in the early 2030s. The city’s attractions, such as the Tanuki Koji shopping street and the lively Susukino entertainment district, make it a popular destination, especially during the winter months when Sapporo’s iconic snowy landscapes draw visitors from around the world.

Hyatt's Growing Presence in Japan

The addition of Park Hyatt Sapporo will further expand Hyatt’s presence in Japan, where the company already operates 21 hotels under nine distinct brands, including Andaz, Grand Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency. This growth in Hokkaido is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Hyatt’s brand portfolio in the region, following the successful opening of Park Hyatt Hanazono in 2020. Additionally, Hyatt will be introducing its dynamic Hyatt Centric brand in Sapporo in 2026, further cementing its commitment to the Japanese market.

A New Landmark in Sapporo

The upcoming Park Hyatt Sapporo represents a significant milestone in Hyatt’s expansion plans, offering a luxurious new destination in one of Japan’s most sought-after regions. With its strategic location, exceptional design, and world-class amenities, the hotel is poised to become a landmark in Sapporo, catering to both international tourists and local visitors seeking an unparalleled luxury experience.
