Peterborough United can confirm that three members of the first team squad have been called up by their respective countries ahead of this week's international fixtures with midfielder and skipper Hector Kyprianou once again named in the senior Cyprus squad.
Kyprianou flew out following Saturday's defeat to Wrexham and could feature in UEFA Nations League fixtures against Lithuania on Friday 6th September and Kosovo three days later.
On-loan defender Sam Curtis has been selected in the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad for their forthcoming fixtures.
Ireland will base themselves in Dublin before flying out to Istanbul for the qualifier against Türkiye on Friday, 6th September. The young Boys in Green return to Ireland before facing Latvia in Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday, 10th September.
Meanwhile, centre back George Nevett has been included in the Wales Under 19 squad. Wales face Turkmenistan on Saturday 7 September and Azerbaijan on Monday 9 September. Both matches take place in Pinatar, Spain and will get under way at 11am.
Cyprus
The 23 year-old started the Nations League game against Kosovo in Larnaca as a centre-back, but was substituted at half-time with Cyprus 2-0 down. Kosovo eventually won 4-0. Cyprus had won 1-0 in Lithuania on Friday when Kyprianou was also substituted at half-time.
Posh captain and star midfielder Hector Kyprianou won his ninth senior Cyprus caps in a 1-0 in a Nations League game in Lithuania on Friday. Kyprianou started, but was cautioned in the first-half and taken off at the break with Posh hopeful it was a tactical move. Cyprus are at home in another Nations League game to Kosovo on Monday (September 9).
Republic of Ireland U21s
Posh loanee full-back Sam Curtis is due to be in action for the Republic of Ireland Under 21s in a European Championship qualifier against Latvia in Dublin on Tuesday (5pm). Curtis, who is on loan at Posh from Sheffield United, scored the winning goal in a 1-0 success in Turkey on Friday.
Curtis struck the only goal of the game with six minutes to go in Istanbul as Ireland kept alive their hopes of reaching the finals.
Curtis expertly slotted the ball home after racing in behind the home defence Ireland remain second in Group A, just two points behind Italy ahead of their game against Latvia in Dublin on Tuesday.
“It’s a huge win for us,” Curtis told the Iris media. “In the latter stages of the game it could have gone either way. It's hard here as Turkey are very good, but we just had that fighting spirit in us and we always knew we would get a chance.”
Curtis is only , but has now won 11 Under caps for his country. Curtis is on loan at Posh from Championship side Sheffield United.
Wales U19s
Summer Posh signing George Nevett was on the bench as Wales Under 19s beat Azerbaijan 3-0 in a friendly in Spain today. Nevett started Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Turkmenistan.
