Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008 Long-Range: Electric SUVs That Break the Range Barrier

Peugeot has made waves in the automotive industry with the introduction of its Long-Range versions of the E-3008 and E-5008 electric SUVs, boasting a remarkable driving range that surpasses the competition. These new models are set to redefine the electric SUV segment, offering drivers the freedom to travel farther and experience greater convenience.

Range That Redefines Expectations

The E-3008 Long Range, powered by a 233bhp engine and a 96.3kWh battery, achieves a remarkable 435-mile range on a single charge. This places it firmly among the top contenders for the longest-range electric cars currently on sale. The e-5008 Long Range, while offering a slightly lower range of 415 miles, also boasts a remarkable driving range. This is attributed to the added bulk and the seven-seat configuration of the larger SUV.

Charging Efficiency for Effortless Journeys

In addition to their impressive range, both the E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range models are equipped with a new battery pre-conditioning system. This system optimizes charging efficiency and charging times, especially during longer trips. With a rapid 160kW DC charger, both SUVs can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 27 minutes. This ensures that drivers can quickly replenish their batteries and continue their journeys with minimal disruption.

Design That Turns Heads

Peugeot's E-3008, particularly the Long Range version, exhibits a daring and captivating design. The front grille is a dominant feature, accentuated by tiny LED headlights and the distinctive three-bar LED running lights. The rear end, with its blocky and Lego-like appearance, is a bold departure from conventional SUV designs, evoking memories of classic Transformers toys. Despite its unconventional styling, the E-3008's design is undeniably captivating and stands out in a crowded SUV market.

Interior Design: A Fusion of Comfort and Technology

Step inside the E-3008 Long Range, and you are greeted by a futuristic interior reminiscent of a concept car. The expansive 21-inch screen, comprised of two conjoined screens for instrumentation and infotainment, adds a touch of technological elegance. While the screens could benefit from more physical buttons, they offer a user-friendly experience. The interior, however, features a soft tweed-like material that covers the dashboard, center console, and door panels. This fabric provides a cozy and comfortable feel, a stark contrast to the hard plastic often found in other vehicles. The center console's L-shaped design creates ample storage space for passengers, while the tiny hexagonal steering wheel, a signature Peugeot design element, adds a unique touch to the driving experience.

Room for Improvement: Space and Driving Dynamics

Although the E-3008 Long Range offers impressive range and interior features, it falls short in terms of rear passenger space. Both legroom and headroom are on the tighter side, making it unsuitable for families or individuals who prioritize rear-seat comfort. The boot offers a decent 548 liters of space, which is more than sufficient for everyday needs. However, if you require ample rear passenger room, the larger E-5008, which will be available soon, might be a better option.

The E-3008 Long Range's driving dynamics are also a mixed bag. While the car initially feels responsive and alert, it can sometimes feel clunky, particularly in handling and suspension performance. The braking system also feels soft and lacks precision, which can be disconcerting during rapid deceleration. Despite these flaws, the E-3008 Long Range offers a unique driving experience that is both intriguing and enjoyable. The car's exceptional efficiency and long range make it an excellent option for long-distance driving, while its distinctive design and comfortable interior add a touch of style and comfort.

A Promise of Even More: The E-3008 Long Range's Future

The E-3008 Long Range is a promising electric SUV that offers a unique combination of style, range, and technology. While the car might not be perfect, its overall package is compelling. With its upcoming larger-battery version, promising a remarkable 700km range, the E-3008 Long Range is poised to redefine the electric SUV segment. As the STLA-Medium platform is updated, we can anticipate enhancements to the driving experience, including improved handling, suspension, and braking performance. The E-3008 Long Range is a testament to Peugeot's commitment to innovation and electric mobility, and its potential for future success is undeniable.

The Verdict

While the E-3008 Long Range is not without its flaws, it's an intriguing and interesting car, a welcome change from the often-bland SUV offerings. The combination of its exceptional range, captivating design, comfortable interior, and innovative technology makes it one of the most impressive electric SUVs on the market. While Peugeot continues to improve its driving dynamics, the E-3008 Long Range is a strong contender for those seeking a stylish, practical, and long-range electric SUV.
