Queen’s founding guitarist Brian May revealed that he had a “minor stroke” last week that left him unable to use his left arm for a while. But the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is recovering and assured the faithful that the episode is not career-threatening.

In a video shared on his website on Wednesday, May said, “The good news is that I can play guitar… it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago, and what they called it was a minor stroke. And all of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.”

May detailed his experience, explaining that he went to Frimley Hospital in Surrey, England, where he received “fantastic care.” He noted that he was initially hesitant to share the news, as he didn’t want sympathy, joking, “Please don’t do that because it’ll clutter up my inbox and I hate that. The good news is I’m OK. Just doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded. I’m not allowed to go out much, drive or get on a plane or do anything that will ‘raise the heart rate too high.’”

The incident occurred about a week before he shared the news, and the 77-year-old guitarist’s health update caused a stir amongst his fans and the music world.

Recovery and Future Plans

The stroke was described as “minor,” and May is expected to make a full recovery. However, he admitted that he is taking a cautious approach to his health, following doctor’s orders and limiting his activities.

Despite the scare, May reassured fans that he is still able to play guitar, which is a significant relief for those who feared he might have to put his musical career on hold.

Brian May’s Health History

This is not the first time May has faced a serious health challenge. In 2020, he had a “small heart attack,” revealing that he had three blocked arteries and underwent a procedure to have stents inserted. He also shared that he suffered a stomach hemorrhage due to complications from medications he was taking for his heart.

Queen’s Legacy

Queen, known for iconic hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “We Are the Champions,” has captivated audiences for decades. The band, which was formed in 1970, continues to be a global phenomenon, inspiring generations of musicians. Despite Freddie Mercury’s passing in 1991, Queen has continued to tour with Adam Lambert as the lead vocalist, showcasing their enduring popularity and captivating fans worldwide.

A Respected Multi-Talent

May’s passion extends beyond music. He is also an accomplished astrophysicist and an outspoken animal rights activist. His documentary, “Brian May: The Badgers, the Farmers and Me,” released in August 2024, highlights his decade-long campaign to stop Britain’s controversial badger cull.

May’s multifaceted talents and unwavering dedication to his passions have made him a respected and beloved figure across various fields. While his recent health scare has been a reminder of life’s unpredictability, his fans are relieved to hear that he is on the road to recovery and are eagerly awaiting what the future holds for the talented guitarist and advocate.

The Show Must Go On

May’s resilience and determination are mirrored in Queen’s enduring legacy. His recent health challenges are a reminder of the vulnerability we all share, but also of the strength and determination that can guide us through difficult times. May’s ability to bounce back underscores the power of perseverance and the importance of prioritizing health and wellbeing. While the world eagerly awaits the return of the legendary guitarist, May’s spirit of “The Show Must Go On” continues to inspire and captivate millions around the globe.
